Thermal waters are a defining feature of Băile 1 Mai: they are used for treatment, relaxation and recuperation. The area also offers outdoor activities, a historic spa resort and a connection to Oradea. This lets you tailor your stay to different interests: leisure in the water, time outdoors or a look at the area's history. These options are available as separate highlights; no set itinerary is needed.
Thermal Waters and Leisure

Check which facilities are available seasonally before visiting. The thermal waters are used for treatment, relaxation and recuperation; Venus Waterland is a separate water-based leisure attraction. When planning, you can consider the spa resort's thermal-water focus and the leisure activities at Venus Waterland as distinct aspects.
Cycling and Hiking
The Băile 1 Mai–Dealul Șomleului–Băile 1 Mai cycling route is 12 km long and starts in the centre of the spa resort. This gives you a clearly identified route with a specific distance for a cycling trip. Check current conditions before setting off, as the surface and signage may change. Băile 1 Mai's natural surroundings are also suitable for hiking. The named route provides a reference point for cycling, while hiking is another way to spend time outdoors. If you are weighing up both activities, the 12 km distance gives you a specific basis for planning your cycling trip; hiking is another way to experience the natural surroundings.
Spa Resort History
The spa resort's history offers another perspective. In 1771, Băile 1 Mai had four pools surrounded by a wooden fence and ten accommodation rooms. Hotel Ștefan opened in 1842 as the first hotel in Băile 1 Mai. Chronologically, the pools and accommodation rooms came before the first hotel. The former casino building is a historic heritage structure. The Water Lily Lake was legally protected in 1932 as part of the Pârâul Pețea Nature Reserve. The area's history thus extends from earlier pools and accommodation to a former casino building and a protected lake.
Getting There and Choosing Accommodation
