Lancrăm can be explored through a clear cultural theme: Lucian Blaga, his origins, and his commemoration. The house where the writer was born is the Casa Memorială „Lucian Blaga”; his grave is also in the village. Other highlights include the International Lucian Blaga Festival, the history of the brass band, and archaeological traces. This offers a perspective ranging from Blaga’s biography and music history to the Dacian era.
Blaga’s Birthplace and Grave
The Casa Memorială „Lucian Blaga“ is located in the house where Lucian Blaga was born. It is closed on Mondays and open from 08:00 to 16:00 from Tuesday to Sunday. Check the opening hours before your visit, as the weekly schedule may change.
Lucian Blaga’s grave is part of Lancrăm’s memorial and historical heritage; its associated identifier is AB-IV-m-00413. The grave was designed by sculptor Romulus Ladea, made of river stone, and can be considered an art monument. Blaga chose the location and orientation of his grave, with a view of Râpa Roşie, a natural monument. The birthplace points to Blaga’s origins, while the grave foregrounds its design, material, and the orientation he chose.
Festival and Cultural Events
The International Lucian Blaga Festival was founded in 1981 and has been held every year without interruption ever since. Each year, at the beginning of May, the „Lucian Blaga“ Memorial Complex in Lancrăm opens the festival’s cultural activities. The 2025 festival program included a pilgrimage to the statue of Lucian Blaga and the writer’s grave. For a specific trip, early May is a recurring time of year to consider; also check the dates for the relevant edition.
Brass Band History and Archaeology
The Muzeul Fanfarei is located in the center of Lancrăm. It gives visitors a brief overview of the history of the brass band, as well as the uniforms and instruments used over time. This short overview connects the band’s history with its equipment. Alongside literary and commemorative history, it offers another perspective on the village’s culture.
An older history of settlement is reflected in the Dacian-era site of Glod-Lancrăm, illustrated by iron tools and weapons, as well as pottery, discovered there. Another archaeological subject is a bone sceptre discovered in Lancrăm. It is one of the valuable items in the archaeological collection in Sebeș. The find site and the collection it belongs to provide different geographical connections: the sceptre was discovered in Lancrăm, while it belongs to the collection in Sebeș. Together with the Blaga memorial sites and the Muzeul Fanfarei, this archaeological perspective broadens the cultural picture to include a much older period of settlement.
