In Kłos, you can plan your trip around specific themes: the history of a manor house and routes that pass through the village or begin there. Two cycling routes differ in length and character; the Sianów section of the Pomorskie Way of St. James also starts here. If you are looking for a hotel in Kłos, you can first decide whether history, cycling or pilgrimage will be the focus of your stay.
Manor House History and Key Dates
Kłos was first mentioned in 1614. A manor house was established here that same year, called Klusshof, “Stary Kłos” or “Wielki Kłos”. It was founded with the consent of the magistrate of the city of Koszalin and the community; the manor house belonged to the city. During the Seven Years’ War, Kłos and its manor house were devastated. The village was resettled in 1764. The history of the village thus links its first mention and the founding of the manor house with a later turning point.
Cycling Routes by Length and Character
The yellow “Trakt Rybogryfa” cycling route is 23.7 km long and was designed for family cycling trips. It runs from Góra Chełmska through Kłos, Węgorzewo and Policko to Dzierżęcino. The route follows a straight, scenic stretch by Lake Policko and leads to an Indian village. Its length and stated purpose provide two different points of reference for planning: the scale of the trip and its focus on family cycling outings.
There is a precise landmark to help you navigate this route: heading towards Sianów, cyclists turn right after 4.3 km. On the left, they pass a wayside cross in Kłos; the blue hiking trail also runs by this cross. The wayside cross is therefore a shared landmark for the cycling and hiking routes.
The blue “Śladami końskich podków” cycling route is 57.4 km long, making it more than twice as long as the yellow route. It runs through Skwierzynka, Osieki, Rzepkowo, Iwięcino, Skibno, Kędzierzyn, Kłos, Maszkowo and Węgorzewo. The route features numerous natural attractions, historic buildings, monuments and equestrian centres. A comparison therefore takes into account both the kilometres and the routes’ different profiles: the yellow route was designed for family cycling trips, while the blue one is associated with nature, historic sites and equestrian themes.
The Sianów Section of the Way of St. James
Another kind of route begins in Kłos: the Sianów section of the Pomorskie Way of St. James runs from here via Sianów, Skibno, Skibienko, Sucha Koszalińska, Kleszcze, Osieki, Rzepkowo and Iwięcino to Bielkowo. Kłos is therefore not only a village passed through by two cycling routes, but also the explicitly named starting point of this section of the Way of St. James. The sequence of places offers a different point of reference for planning a trip than the cycling route distances: those including this route can consider the named stops in the order given.
