Church art, a lakeside trail and a long Greenway give Wielin its distinct character. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between these themes: Christ the King Church stands in the southwestern part of the village and features historic wooden furnishings. The Droga św. Jakuba runs from Wielin along Lake Wielin, while the Greenway Naszyjnik Północy passes through the village and, at 846.1 kilometres, is on a very different scale. The Rezerwat Wielin nature reserve, with its mosses and erratic boulders, and the tomb of the von Clave-Bouhaben family add to the picture. The village’s points of interest thus range from sacred art to landscape and long-distance routes.

Christ the King Church: Location and Furnishings

Christ the King Church stands in the southwestern part of Wielin, on a prominent rise with wooded slopes within the historic cemetery. Its historic furnishings include a wooden high altar, a patron’s gallery and a pulpit. All three feature rich figurative, botanical and architectural ornamentation. Their shared material—wood—links these different elements, while their motifs range from figures to plant and architectural forms. The church’s location and furnishings provide two different points of interest: its position in the village and the details of its historic design.

The Droga św. Jakuba by Lake Wielin

From Wielin, the Droga św. Jakuba follows a forest trail along the shore of Lake Wielin and continues southwest towards Polanów and Święta Góra Polanowska. Along the way, it passes the Kapliczki Tajemnic Różańcowych. The route thus combines a lakeside and forest section with a clearly stated direction towards the southwest. Markings and trail conditions may change; check both before setting out if you plan to follow this route.

The Greenway and its Route Length

The green-marked Greenway Naszyjnik Północy is 846.1 kilometres long and passes through Wielin. This length places the Greenway on a larger scale; it is not the length of a section through the village. When planning, it is therefore important to distinguish between the two: for the Droga św. Jakuba, the focus is on its route from Wielin, the lakeshore and the southwestern direction; for the Greenway, it is the total length. The listed length may change if the route is modified. Check the current figure if you are using it to plan your trip.

Natural Features and Another Local Point of Interest

Mosses and erratic boulders can be found in the Rezerwat Wielin nature reserve. These two natural features are on different scales: mosses represent small plant forms, while erratic boulders are distinctive rock formations. They add a landscape dimension to the routes without requiring visitors to follow a particular trail.

The tomb of the von Clave-Bouhaben family is also located in Wielin. It adds a family tomb to the village’s cultural points of interest and differs in theme from the wooden furnishings of Christ the King Church. Together with the natural features and the two routes, it makes Wielin a place whose attractions can be considered in terms of culture, landscape and route.
