The Bałtycki Krzyż Nadziei, the “Sursum Corda” Sanctuary, and the sandy coastline reveal different sides of Pustkowo: religious heritage, a distinctive landmark, and a landscape shaped by dunes and cliffs. The area also has natural monuments and a black-marked connecting trail to Pobierowo. If you choose a holiday destination based on specific themes, Pustkowo can be explored through its landscape, culture, and outdoor activities.

Coast and Natural Monuments

Pustkowo’s sandy coastline is shaped by dunes and cliffs. Three natural monuments are located in its green surroundings, including old elms and a pedunculate oak. The natural monuments offer a different focus from the coast: here, individual old trees take center stage, while there, it is the sandy stretch with its dunes and cliffs. Anyone interested in the local landscape will find specific natural features alongside the coastal scenery.

Bałtycki Krzyż Nadziei and Sanctuary

The Bałtycki Krzyż Nadziei is a replica of the cross on Giewont. It was erected in May 2007 in the square on Nadmorska Street in Pustkowo. At 19 meters tall and weighing 4.5 tonnes, the structure is a distinctive landmark visible from far away. The “Sursum Corda” Sanctuary is located at the foot of the cross. It is an open-air sanctuary and is described as the only sanctuary of its kind in Poland. The connection between the cross and the sanctuary gives Pustkowo’s religious heritage a clear focal point: both are located in the same place, with the sanctuary expressly situated at the foot of the cross.

The Western Connecting Trail

Those wishing to explore Pustkowo on foot can follow the black-marked Western Connecting Trail. The route is about three kilometers long and runs between Pustkowo and Pobierowo. Within Pustkowo, the trail begins on Słoneczna Street, follows Nadmorska Street, and continues to the Bałtycki Krzyż Nadziei. This gives both the approximate length of the route and a specific description of its path through the village. The route description was last updated in February 2020; as trail and road conditions may change, check the current situation before setting out.

Pilgrimages and Other Activities

The “Sursum Corda” Sanctuary is the starting point for many pilgrimages. These include a walking pilgrimage to Jasna Góra and a motorcycle pilgrimage to the cross on Giewont. The examples differ in both their means of travel and their destinations. At the same time, the motorcycle pilgrimage connects to the Giewont cross, a replica of which also stands in Pustkowo. In addition to these religious connections, Pustkowo offers opportunities to play beach volleyball. The village therefore brings together a range of travel interests: a distinctive coastal landscape, named natural monuments, religious heritage, and outdoor activities.
