The coastal landscape defines Pogorzelica: beach, dunes, lake and a sandy spit shape the town and its immediate surroundings. To understand the location in more detail, you’ll find two distinct bodies of water, a natural boundary with Niechorze and a green route through Pogorzelica. Rail services planned for 2026 are also a specific, time-limited planning note.

Coast, spit and dunes

From the lighthouse in Niechorze, a sandy spit stretches eastward to the centre of Pogorzelica. It separates the coastal lake Liwia Łuża from the Baltic Sea. This gives the landform two clear reference points: its starting point at the lighthouse and its end in the town centre. Its location also explains how the lake and the Baltic Sea are separated from one another.

Pogorzelica’s broad beach is characterised by gently shaped sand dunes covered with grasses and pine trees. There are also large, shifting sand dunes in the eastern part of the town. The dune landscape therefore includes both grass- and pine-covered dunes by the beach and large shifting dunes in the east. This distinction gives a more precise impression of the landscape than a general view of the coastal town alone.

Lake, canal and nature reserve

The Liwka Canal forms the natural boundary between Pogorzelica and Niechorze. It is about 1 kilometre long and connects Lake Liwia-Łuża with the waters of the Baltic Sea. The spit separates the lake and the Baltic Sea, while the canal connects them: these are two distinct geographical functions that clarify how the waters relate to one another. The canal is therefore both a marker of the town boundary and a point of reference for the connection between the waters.

Near Pogorzelica, Lake Liwia-Łuża and its shores are entirely within the 220-hectare “Jezioro Liwia Łuża” ornithological reserve. The protected area includes both the water and the shoreline. The lake is home to a large breeding population of mute swans. If you’re interested in nature and landscape when choosing a destination, you’ll find here not only a coastal landform but also a lake with designated protected status and a bird population explicitly associated with it.

Routes and rail services

A guide dated 15 July 2026 shows Nordic walking routes in Pogorzelica on a map. The green-marked Szlak Liwiej Łuży also passes through the town. These are different kinds of information for getting your bearings: a map showing Nordic walking routes and a named trail marked in green through Pogorzelica. If you’re taking routes into account when choosing a destination, you can distinguish between looking for an overview map and a specifically named trail.

Daily train services were scheduled at Pogorzelica station from 24 April to 27 September 2026. This information applies to the stated period and is a specific note about that season. For travel in a later season, check the timetable then in effect.
