Lipusz combines distinctive cultural sites with green discoveries and a distinctive waterscape. This gives you different focal points to choose from when planning your trip: a museum in a former church, a monument with a historical connection, landscaped outdoor spaces and the Wda with its watermill. Rather than treating all the sites as similar attractions, it is worth considering what makes each one special. This will help you decide whether cultural history, plants and park design, or the relationship between the river and the mill is what matters most to you.
Cultural Sites with Different Stories
The Muzeum Gospodarstwa Wiejskiego is located in the former Protestant church at the intersection of Wybickiego and Majkowskiego streets. The museum’s location connects a specific place in the local landscape with the building’s former function. Lipusz is also home to the Roman Catholic parish church of St. Michael the Archangel. This brings together two different religious connections: a former Protestant church serving as a museum and a Catholic parish church with its own dedication. A monument commemorates a prisoner-of-war camp from the Second World War that stood in the surrounding fields; it is located 30 metres behind the railway viaduct. The museum, parish church and monument each offer a different perspective—on the building’s use, the church’s dedication and remembrance of wartime.
Park, Plants and Arboretum
The park przy Nadleśnictwie Lipusz is a public recreation and educational park. Its educational trail focuses on nectar-rich trees, shrubs and perennials. Pergolas, benches, paths with different surfaces and a covered rest area are also part of the site. The plants’ colourful appearance changes with the seasons and over the years. The plant life therefore offers two time scales: changing impressions over the course of the year and changes over several years. With its educational trail and places to rest, the park is also a place for nature education and relaxation.
The arboretum on the grounds of the Lipusz Forest District offers a different botanical focus. It was established in 2011 and contains a collection of trees and shrubs. It is the first and only garden of its kind in Powiat kościerski. Compared with the park, the focus here is on a collection of woody plants, while the park highlights nectar-rich plants and their changing colours. You can choose between the two green spaces based on their different botanical perspectives.
The Wda and Nearby Places
Alongside the watermill, the broad Wda forms Młyński Pond. The watermill can also be viewed from the kayaking route on the Wda. Both connections lead back to the river: it is part of how the pond was formed and is also the vantage point for seeing the mill from the kayaking route. The mill is therefore notable not just as a building, but also for its relationship with the Wda.
Near Lipusz, Diabelski Kamień lies along the educational trail of the Lipusz Forest District, close to the Płociczno forester’s lodge. Its location sets it apart from the cultural sites in Lipusz itself: the stone is in the surrounding area. This lets you weigh cultural sites in the town separately from an additional natural attraction in the area.
