The Gmina Kościerzyna is also worth considering when planning your trip: lakes, canoe routes, nature trails and regional architecture offer a variety of ways to shape your visit. Choose based on scenery, water activities or culture, then see which places to visit fit your plans.

Lake District and Nature Trails

More than 60 lakes define the Gmina Kościerzyna. Part of the municipality lies within Wdzydzki Landscape Park, with its group of ribbon lakes. Lake Wdzydze is also known as the “Kashubian Sea.” Together with its arms, Radolne, Jeleń and Gołuń, the lake system covers 1,430 hectares.

Three nature trails make it easy to compare distances and stops: the trail in Wdzydze is four kilometres long and has eight stops. In Juszki, a five-kilometre nature and education loop passes five information boards. The “Szlakiem pięciu jezior” nature trail in Wąglikowice is six kilometres long and has five stops. If you are looking for the shortest of these three listed routes, you will find it in Wdzydze; the trails in Juszki and Wąglikowice offer different distance options.

Out on the Water

The Gmina Kościerzyna has 80 kilometres of waterways for canoeing. The Wda, Pilica, Wierzyca and Trzebiocha rivers are connected by canoe routes. One named waterway runs from Borowa via Pilica, Graniczna and Trzebiocha to the Wda; its starting point is at “Kajaki Młyn” in Korne. Canoes and instruction are available there, and visits to the old mill are also possible. If you are planning a specific activity, check availability directly.

The Stolem boat offers a different perspective on the Wdzydze lakes: on an approximately one-hour trip, it circles Ostrów Wielki, the largest island in the lake. The PTTK Water Station in Wdzydze has a water-sports equipment rental service. If you would like to use it, check availability before your visit.

Kashubian Architecture and Events

The Muzeum – Kaszubski Park Etnograficzny im. Teodory i Izydora Gulgowskich in Wdzydze is Poland’s oldest open-air museum. Covering 22 hectares on the shore of Lake Gołuń, it features more than 50 examples of regional architecture from Kashubia, Kociewie and the Tuchola Forests. They illustrate rural building styles from the 17th to the 20th century. The broad time span makes a visit especially interesting if you would like to compare architectural styles from different centuries.

The museum programme includes concerts on a Baroque chamber organ made in 1765 by Gdańsk organist Gottfried Weinert. Regional folk ensembles also perform there regularly. The Jarmark Wdzydzki takes place at the open-air museum; traditionally, it is held on the third Saturday and Sunday in July. Check the dates for the relevant year before your trip.

Another sightseeing option is the Zakłady Porcelany Stołowej “Lubiana S.A.” porcelain factory: guided tours are available year-round, Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., by prior arrangement. The guide takes you through the entire production process, from design to decoration. Since booking arrangements may change, confirm your appointment in advance.

Choose Accommodation Based on Your Plans

When looking for a hotel in Berent, it helps to prioritise the places you want to visit first: a nature trail, the open-air museum, the porcelain factory or an activity on the water each offers a different focus. These destinations are in different parts of the Gmina Kościerzyna. So check which accommodation location suits your specific plans, rather than choosing based solely on the number of activities available.
