When looking for accommodation in Wyszkowski, you can start by distinguishing between Wyszków, with its river, park and architectural history, and other cultural or nature destinations in the travel area. In Wyszków, the Bug, a viewing terrace, a historic park, an obelisk and a church are among the notable landmarks. Further afield, an open-air museum and nature trails, for example, add to the options. This distinction helps you plan your overnight stay around the themes that matter most to you.

The Bug, viewpoints and historic park in Wyszków

Wyszków lies on both sides of the Bug River. Next to the road bridge is a viewing terrace from which you can look out over the river. On the riverbank, at the edge of the riverside promenade, begins the Dolina Dolnego Bugu Natura 2000 Special Protection Area for Birds; the Ostoja Nadbużańska Natura 2000 Habitat Area also begins there. The promenade and the two named protected areas thus offer different points of reference for getting your bearings along the Bug.

Karola Ferdynanda Wazy Park covers about 10 hectares. Its distinctive landscape features include 19 trees of monumental size that are more than 200 years old; two of them are listed in the register of monuments. The park’s paths are laid out for walks, where local residents can enjoy some recreation. Wyszków’s salt graduation tower is also located in the park. The park lodge is a Neo-Gothic building from the mid-19th century.

Church, obelisk and the park’s history

The brick Church of St. Giles in Wyszków was built between 1793 and 1795. It has three naves; its design recalls the classicist Stanisław style and column structures modeled on Palladio. Since 1962, the church has been recognized as a monument and entered in the register of monuments. It is open during Mass and by prior arrangement with the parish priest in Wyszków. If you plan to visit, take these access arrangements into account.

The Wazów Obelisk is made of local gray marble. At its base is the royal coat of arms of the House of Vasa, featuring a crowned sheaf of grain; a sphere bearing a double-barred cross sits at the top. The Baroque monument was erected after 1655 to a design by Giovanni Babtysta Gisleni, funded by King Jan Kazimierz in memory of his brother Karol Ferdynand Waza.

The history of the park grounds goes back further still. In the second half of the 16th century, a manor house stood there, one of the residences of the Bishops of Płock. Bishop Karol Ferdynand Waza particularly liked staying there and died there. The park was later laid out in the second half of the 19th century, when the property belonged to the tsarist official Sołowiow, on the site of a former estate of the bishops.

Cultural and nature destinations in the wider travel area

Długosiodło is home to the brick Church of St. Roch, a Neo-Gothic brick building with two towers. It was built between 1908 and 1912 to a design by Józef Pius Dziekoński. In Brańszczyk, the Skansen im. Marii Żywirskiej open-air museum features a wooden cottage, an apiary house, a barn, a well and a blacksmith’s shop. Authentic wooden buildings come, among other places, from Trzcianka, Tuchlin and Udrzyn. Visitors can see what traditional Polish villages looked like and what tools and equipment were used there.

There are other places to explore nature in the wider travel area: on a forest clearing surrounded by marshes in Tuchlin, a wooden boardwalk leads to a small, wet ecological reserve. From the boardwalk, you can observe orchids and aquatic and marsh plants. A green hiking trail runs through the center of Bagno Pulwy, from Sieczychy to Nowy Lubiel on the Narew. These examples differ in character: the boardwalk focuses on plants and wetlands, while the hiking trail follows a longer route through the marshland.
