Deskurów combines a clearly named cycling route with a distinctive landscape feature: the village’s forest complexes border directly on the Bug River flood terrace. The village’s history, whose founding is associated with Bronisław Deskur, adds another dimension. When planning a trip, you can treat cycling, landscape and local history as separate focal points.

Cycling through Deskurów

The Szlak im. Prymasa Tysiąclecia cycling route runs from Wyszków via Rybienko Leśne, Drogoszewo and Deskurów to Ślubów, on the southern edge of the municipality. The sequence of place names helps you locate Deskurów along the route. If you are planning to cycle the route, check the current waymarking before setting out.

Forest complexes on the flood terrace

Deskurów’s forest complexes border directly on the Bug River flood terrace. Within Wyszków Municipality, Deskurów is one of the few separate forest complexes in this location. Together, the cycling route and the forests offer two distinct points of reference when planning a trip: the route runs through several places, while the forests define Deskurów’s landscape setting.

Bronisław Deskur and the history of the village

Bronisław Deskur founded Deskurów in the 19th century. In the wider regional context, he was a major in the January Uprising in Puszcza Biała and Podlachia, where he commanded a cavalry squadron. His historical background therefore extends beyond the founding of the village to the region as a whole.

Culture and landscape in the wider Wyszkowski destination

Within the wider Wyszkowski destination, the town of Wyszków is a distinct cultural and landscape focal point. Karol Ferdynand Waza Park in Wyszków covers about ten hectares. It is home to 19 trees that are more than 200 years old; two of them are listed in the register of monuments.

The park was laid out in the second half of the 19th century as the property of the Tsarist official Sołowiow, on the site of a former estate belonging to the Bishops of Płock. As early as the second half of the 16th century, a manor house stood there, one of the residences of the Bishops of Płock. Karol Ferdynand Waza was especially fond of staying there and died there. Thus, the history of the manor house and the later creation of the park are tied to the same site, but to different centuries.

The park lodge is a Neo-Gothic building dating from the mid-19th century. The Wyszków salt graduation tower is located in the historic Karol Ferdynand Waza Town Park. Its paths are laid out to provide local residents with a place to relax on walks. At the edge of the riverside promenade, the Dolina Dolnego Bugu Natura 2000 bird protection area and the Ostoja Nadbużańska Natura 2000 habitat area begin. Wyszków also has an observation terrace beside the road bridge, offering a view of the Bug River.

The Church of St. Giles in Wyszków also offers historical and architectural points of interest. The present-day brick church was built in 1793–1795 and was recognised as a monument and entered in the register of monuments in 1962. It is a three-nave building; its design recalls the classicist Stanisław style and column structures inspired by Palladio. The church is accessible during Mass and by prior arrangement with the parish priest in Wyszków.

The Wazów Obelisk is made of locally sourced grey marble. The base bears the royal coat of arms of the House of Vasa, featuring a crowned sheaf of grain; the top is a sphere with a double-barred cross. By contrast, the tourist game “Śladami Enigmy w Wyszkowie” (In the Footsteps of Enigma in Wyszków) focuses on solving puzzles: using a game map, participants visit the marked locations and decipher a secret message. The town game draws on the history of Enigma codebreaking and can be played at any time.
