Kokotów combines cycling history with a recreation area for play, exercise and time outdoors. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider whether these local attractions suit your stay or whether you would also like to explore the wider destination of Wieliczka, where salt history, architecture and routes take centre stage.

Cycling and Recreation in Kokotów

The family cycling event Velo Kokotów has been held in Kokotów for the third time. The cycling day covered more than 13 kilometres through Kokotów, Brzegi, Grabie, Niepołomice-Podgrabie and Węgrzce Wielkie. Along the route were four checkpoints with tasks and questions about regional history. This gave the event at the time a clear focus on regional history alongside cycling.

The recreation area includes a grass sports field, a children’s playground, an outdoor fitness area, a zip line, a table tennis table and table football. The area is intended for recreation, play and spending time outdoors. As the facilities may change, check their current condition before visiting. A former royal route to Niepołomice also passed through Kokotów.

Wieliczka as a Wider Travel Destination

In the wider destination of Wieliczka, the Salt Mine is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Wieliczka and Bochnia Royal Salt Mines”. The underground Miners’ Route includes 7 to 14 workings in the rough mine workings around the oldest surviving Regis shaft and is up to 2 kilometres long.

On 8 September 2026, Zamek Żupny and its courtyard were closed for renovation work, which is expected to continue until the end of 2028. Check the latest status before visiting. The archaeological exhibition at Zamek Żupny traces the development of salt production from the Neolithic period to the Middle Ages.

Routes and Architectural History in Wieliczka

The yellow trail is a hiking and cycling route between Wieliczka and Dobczyce. The red cycling trail forms a 27-kilometre loop through Wieliczka and Siercza. These are two distinct types of route: a route between two places and a circular tour.

The architectural history also offers different points of reference in time. The wooden Church of St Sebastian in Wieliczka was built in 1582 and contains Renaissance paintings. The parish Church of St Clement was founded in 1381 by a donation from the townspeople; architectural elements from the 13th and 14th centuries have been preserved there. The Franciscan Church and Franciscan monastery were built in the first half of the 17th century and were the first stone church of the Lesser Poland Reformers Province.

In Grabie, the parish Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary dates from 1742. Its historic features include a Gothic stone baptismal font from the 15th century. Such specific details about age and architectural style give the cultural landscape of the wider destination of Wieliczka a different character from the cycling and recreation offerings in Kokotów.
