Jawczyce lies at the foot of Łysa Góra, which is 304 metres high. Archaeological evidence, a manor house with a park, preserved farmhouses and a green cycling route give the village several tangible points of interest. The dates range from Neolithic burial mounds to a manor house from the 20th century.

Archaeology and early history

Several Neolithic burial mounds attributed to the Funnel Beaker culture were discovered at the foot of Łysa Góra in 1984. Burial mound 11 at site 1 in Jawczyce is dated much later: it dates from the 19th and 18th centuries BC and is assigned to the late phase of the Mierzanowice culture. A document by Bishop Nanker mentions Jawczyce in 1322. These provide different historical reference points: from prehistoric burial mounds and a medieval mention to later buildings. The year 1984 refers to the year of discovery, not the age of the Neolithic burial mounds.

The grave beneath the burial mound in Jawczyce had a wooden structure. Faience beads and four flint arrowheads were found inside. The largest Jawczyce burial mound is more than 20 metres wide and only 2 metres high. These measurements make its broad, low shape particularly clear. The archaeological history of the village is represented by both dated burial mounds and specific details about the grave structure, finds and dimensions.

Manor house, park and natural monument

The manor house in Jawczyce was built in 1935 and is surrounded by a 19th-century park. The manor house and park thus date from different periods: the park is from the 19th century, while the building itself dates from 1935. This contrast in age complements the much older archaeological evidence with a later layer of buildings.

At the edge of the manor park stands an American beech, listed as a natural monument. Its leaves change colour three times a year: they are green in spring, red in midsummer and golden in autumn. The colours described therefore vary with the season, giving the park a distinct seasonal point of interest.

The architectural heritage also includes several preserved 19th-century farmhouses. They broaden the picture beyond the manor house and park: Jawczyce has preserved farmhouses from the same century as well as a manor house. Together with the archaeological sites, they offer a range of historical topics that can each be explored individually.
