Karol Kurpiński took his first steps in his musical career at the organ of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Włoszakowice. This specific connection between place and musical history adds a distinctive note: the early Baroque church dates from the 17th century, while the palace park highlights nature, local depictions of animals and the history of the community. For your trip planning, this offers a choice between architecture and music on the one hand, and the park and local history on the other. Kurpiński’s baptism in 1785 came later than the church’s founding in biographical terms.

The Church of the Holy Trinity and its organ

The Church of the Holy Trinity was built between 1640 and 1643 as an endowment by the former owners of the local estate, the Opaliński family. Its early Baroque style and clearly dated construction period give the building a distinct historical character. The endowment also links the church to the history of the local estate and the Opaliński family. Its connection with Kurpiński is particularly noteworthy: it was at the church’s still-functioning organ that he took his first steps in his musical career. The instrument was designed and built by Michał Engler from Wrocław. The church building is thus connected with a specific musical biography and the work of a named organ builder. If you would like to experience the organ for yourself, check visitor access in advance.

Palace park: plane tree, sculptures and community history

The oldest plane tree in Wielkopolska, and one of the oldest in Poland, grows in Włoszakowice’s palace park. It is a tree of particular regional and national significance. Sculptures depicting local wildlife were made by Jerzy Sowijak, a folk carver from Bukówiec Górny. Large stones along the paths also tell the history of the Włoszakowice community. Nature, animal depictions and community history thus present the park from different perspectives: as a place with a notable tree, a showcase for local woodcarving and a bearer of municipal history.

Kurpiński: musical and biographical connections

The connection with Kurpiński is also reflected in a public memorial. In front of the school named after him stands a monument by folk carver Leon Dudek from Bukówiec Górny, created at the initiative of the residents of Włoszakowice. Kurpiński was baptised in Włoszakowice on 6 March 1785; his exact date of birth is unknown. The monument complements the story of the organ with a form of public remembrance, while the baptism date provides a biographical detail.

For your trip planning, a thematic comparison may help: at the church, early Baroque architecture and musical history come together; in the park, nature, animal depictions and community history sit side by side. The monument and baptism, by contrast, turn the focus to Kurpiński as a person.
