Cultural and scenic attractions are spread across several villages in the municipality of Lipno. If you are looking for accommodation in Lipno, this overview of the area will help you get your bearings: notable destinations include the late Gothic church in MĂłrkowo, the Dolinka Nature Reserve in Goniembice and the manor house in WyciÄ…ĹĽkowo. Lipno is both the name of a village and of the municipality; not all the places mentioned here are in the centre.

The Samica and protected landscapes

The Samica rises southwest of Lipno and flows through the municipality. It continues through Stare Bojanowo and joins the Obra near Kraśnice. Forests, picturesque landscapes and the Samica Valley, with its namesake stream, offer opportunities for active recreation in the municipality. The river and the surrounding woodland and valley landscapes are therefore among the natural features of the area around Lipno.

The Dolinka Nature Reserve lies in the village of Goniembice. It covers 1.77 hectares and was established in 1974 to protect the endangered European globeflower, a member of the buttercup family. While the forests and the Samica Valley are broader landscape features, the focus at Dolinka is the protection of this particular plant species.

Churches and religious art

A late Gothic church built of brick and granite stands in the centre of Mórkowo. The late Gothic All Saints’ parish church in Mórkowo has a six-part stellar vault supported by two cylindrical pillars. The details about the materials and the vault highlight different architectural features. A chapel at the headquarters of Towarzystwo Chrystusowego dla Polonii Zagranicznej also houses a historic Gothic triptych dating from around 1370. Thus, alongside church buildings, a dated work of art is another religious cultural landmark in the municipality.

Other churches are located in villages across the municipality. A Neo-Romanesque church was built in Radomicko in the mid-19th century; St Nicholas Church in Goniembice dates from 1815. In Wilkowice, there are St Marcin Parish Church and the branch church of St Edyta Stein. These examples range from a specific construction date to different styles and church designations.

Manor house, cycling route and Napoleon legend

The manor house in Wyciążkowo dates from the mid-19th century and features late Neoclassical forms. It has two storeys and a three-axis avant-corps on its front façade. An avant-corps is a projecting section of a façade; in this case, the building’s date, number of storeys and façade design are distinctive features. The manor house is on a cycling route. Lipno is also associated with a local cycling tour: routes laid out by the village heads ended in the park, where residents gathered at the amphitheatre.

Near Lipno, on the road from Leszno to Lipno, stands the glacial erratic known as Stół Napoleona (Napoleon’s Table). According to legend, Napoleon used it as a dining table in 1812 while fleeing Moscow. Unlike the churches and the manor house, the focus here is not on an architectural style or construction date, but on an episode explicitly passed down as legend.

GĂłrka Duchowna is five kilometres from Lipno. The municipality of Lipno is a member of the Leszno Region Tourism Organisation. This geographical and regional context helps place Lipno not only as a village centre, but also in relation to the surrounding villages and landscapes.
