On Nøtterøy, travel ideas range from beaches with different settings and a short coastal path to culture and trips on the water. When planning accommodation, a helpful first step is to decide what you want to focus on: should the coast shape your stay, or would you also like to include culture and the archipelago? The places and connections offer concrete options without requiring a fixed day-by-day plan.
Beaches with different shoreline settings
Fjærholmen is a beach on Nøtterøy’s eastern side, with a sandy beach, rocky shore and large grassy area. Søndre Tenvik has the same combination of sand, rocky shore and a large grassy area; it has several sandy beaches. Rosanes combines a sandy beach with grassy areas. Stranda at Torød has a sandy beach, toilets and a car park. Rosanes also has a car park and toilets, located by Teie’s boat harbour. When choosing, you can therefore take both the shoreline setting and the listed facilities into account.
A short coastal route
The coastal path from Årøysund to Torødstranda is about 1 km long. This makes it a short, clearly defined option to include in your travel plans alongside individual beaches. If you are structuring your time on Nøtterøy, you can treat this path as a separate part of your plans, alongside beach visits and trips on the water.
Culture and the archipelago
Nøtterøy prestegård in Prestegårdsskogen is a cultural site dating from the 19th century. It adds a historical dimension to the coastal attractions. Nearby is Færder National Park, which encompasses the archipelago off Nøtterøy and Tjøme.
A boat trip also takes you into the Nøtterøy archipelago: DS KYSTEN offers such a trip. It departs from Tønsberg brygge and lasts four hours. This makes it a much longer option than the short ferry crossing to Veierland. The two experiences on the water can therefore be distinguished by their destinations and the time they require.
Take the ferry to Veierland
Veierland can be reached by ferry from Tenvik on Nøtterøy and from Engø near Sandefjord. The crossing takes 10 to 15 minutes; bicycles can be taken on the ferry. It is worth checking the timetable before travelling. For planning your time, the difference from the four-hour DS KYSTEN tour is useful to bear in mind: the ferry is a short connection to Veierland, while the boat trip travels through the archipelago.
Plan your stay and hotel search
If you would like to combine several of these activities, also take their different time requirements into account. Then compare hotels based on the details that matter for your stay, and make your choice according to your own travel plans.
