The Risøyhamn Market takes place every year in July. The market features stalls, refreshments and an open museum. This makes the market a distinct reason to travel, and lets you plan a museum visit for the same period. Exact dates may change, so check the market dates for the year of your trip.

Open-air museum and maritime history

The Risøyhamn Museum is a small open-air museum in Risøyhamn on the south side of Andøya. It comprises five historic buildings: Børvågstua, Lensmannsgården, Nilsengården, the boathouse and the barn.

The five-oared boat “Haakon” is housed in the boathouse. It was built in Helgeland in 1880 and is 14 metres long.

Lensmannsgården houses the exhibition “Operations and expeditions – Andværinger i krig og fred”. It opened on 8 May 2025 and explores the contributions and stories of people from Andøya in times of war and peace. Alongside the boat as a historical object, it puts people’s stories at the centre.

Another exhibition in Skomakerstua

Skomakerstua in Risøyhamn houses an exhibition featuring numerous old artefacts. It is another cultural attraction in the village. Those interested in historical objects will find a different perspective here than in the open-air museum’s buildings or through the boat “Haakon”.

Moorlands and heathlands

Risøyhamn is surrounded by moorlands and heathlands where cloudberries grow. Culture and nature are two distinct themes to weigh up when choosing what to travel for.
