Harbrinkhoek has several named walking routes, whose lengths make it possible to choose a specific option. Local history includes the Brandkast on Almeloseweg and the mention of Erve Löwkeboer in 1262.

Walking routes by distance

Het Kroamschudpad is a 5 km village circular walk, while Het Haarbiger kuierpad is 7 km long. This makes the second walk 2 km longer than the first. The Dorpsommetje Harbrinkhoek–Mariaparochie is a 5.0 km walking route, with a stated duration of 1:14. For this route, you can therefore take both the distance and the stated time into account when planning.

One starting point of the Wandelnetwerk van Twente is at Almeloseweg 13: junction H67, with three routes. If you would like to start your walk there, check the current route selection before setting off, as the number of routes may change.

Routes along the Markgraven and in the surrounding area

The route towards Albergen passes through the rolling meadows of Klössehoek. There are also routes along the Markgraven in the area around Harbrinkhoek. The De Markgraven walking route is a specific option: it follows the 12 km-long Markgraven stream over a distance of 8 km and passes through the Schultenwolde estate. The 12 km refers to the length of the stream, while 8 km is the length of the walking route. The rolling meadows of Klössehoek and the route along the Markgraven through Schultenwolde offer two different landscapes to experience on foot.

To get to the De Markgraven walking route, take the bus from Almelo Central Station towards Overdinkel and get off at the Kampkuiper stop in Harbrinkhoek. Check the current timetable before travelling.

Local history in Harbrinkhoek and Mariaparochie

The Brandkast on Almeloseweg commemorates the largest bank robbery in the Netherlands, carried out by resistance fighters in 1944. It stands at the corner of the MVV’29 car park, next to the former Café Frielink.

Erve Löwkeboer on Almeloseweg was mentioned in 1262 under the name Lodewich. The so-called Monumentale Wegsteen in Mariaparochie originally stood behind the present-day parish church.

In the vicinity of Harbrinkhoek, Loakenbeld, an Iron Age urn burial ground, was located on Slagenweg, roughly opposite Broekweg.

Kiekersdag and Carnival

Kiekersdag traditionally begins with a carnival parade through Harbrinkhoek/Mariaparochie. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the specific event dates in advance. This lets you plan your visit around the actual date of the festival without assuming that it takes place on the same date every year.
