Veldhoven is best discovered through its combination of art, cultural heritage and green trails. At Museum ’t Oude Slot, exhibitions and popular prints take center stage; outdoors, art and heritage routes explore a range of themes. Forests, beech avenues, animals and swimming facilities round out the picture. This means there is a choice of discoveries, from a cultural visit to a route through nature.

Art and history along different routes

Museum ’t Oude Slot in Veldhoven is also an educational center. Its exhibitions are often inspired by its extensive collection of popular prints. The collection gives the museum program a clear focus and connects exhibition themes with the museum’s educational role.

The Het Groene Lint art route is a 24-kilometer walking trail that connects the centers of Eersel and Eindhoven. It runs alongside the Gender, Run and Dommel waterways. In Veldhoven, the route follows the Run, bringing nature and art together. The artwork Mensenputten is located along the route outdoors, by the River Run—a fine example of art in the open air rather than in an exhibition space.

The Veldhoven cultural heritage routes also share their stories in several ways: QR-code signs tell visitors about local history, notable residents and special events. Historical photos and anecdotal audio clips add to the content. Two route maps are available to download as four-page A4 PDFs.

The “Tweede Wereldoorlog in herinnering” route is 16 kilometers long and passes places in Veldhoven that commemorate pivotal events of the Second World War. “Geheimen van Veldhoven” covers 9 kilometers between Zandoerle and Zeelst and passes 22 monuments. The Toterfout archaeological site offers a glimpse even further into the past: it includes Bronze Age burial mounds and has been protected as a Rijksmonument, or national monument of the Netherlands, since November 19, 1968.

Exploring the outdoors

The Toterfout-Halfmijl walking route passes through varied woodland. Coniferous and deciduous trees alternate, separated by wide sandy paths. You can follow the route with help from the IVN Natuurroutes app; check the app’s current availability in advance.

The Molenvelden walk is 3 kilometers long. The Molenvelden nature area is known for its beautiful beech avenues. Alongside the woodland at Toterfout-Halfmijl, it offers a different landscape and a clearly stated route length to help you plan.

More things to do in Veldhoven

The collection at Zoo Veldhoven consists mainly of parrots, along with birds of prey, flamingos, pelicans, zebras, ring-tailed lemurs and alpacas. The zoo also has two large playgrounds. If specific animal species or the playgrounds are important to your visit, check the latest visitor information in advance.

City Sport Veldhoven has several pools: a 25-meter pool, a 20 Ă— 10-meter multipurpose pool and a therapy pool. Its classes include swimming and exercise classes for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, children and adults. There are pools with different sizes and functions, as well as classes for different age groups.

Kinderboerderij De Hazewinkel welcomes school classes who can learn about farm animals and nature there. Teaching materials with worksheets are available for the butterfly garden. Groups must contact the farm in advance.

A regular event is CityFest, held on the last full weekend of September in Veldhoven. The free weekend brings together music, culture and festivities and is open to everyone. Check the event dates before making plans.

Practical information

Transport links vary depending on your destination: Museum ’t Oude Slot is easy to reach by public transport. Zoo Veldhoven is on the outskirts, where buses and other public transport run less frequently, so it is advisable to plan your journey in advance. It is also worth checking the relevant information ahead of time if you plan to follow a route using an app or visit on a specific event date.
