Circular routes to natural water features give Dupilo a clear hiking theme: an easy, 4.8-kilometre hike leads to the Opačac Pool, while a second loop includes a detour to a pool with a waterfall. A 7.5-kilometre hike adds the Donji Brčeli Monastery and the Opačac Bridge to the route options. Different route layouts and natural as well as cultural points are therefore relevant to your trip planning.

Circular hikes in Dupilo

The easy circular hike “Dupilo (Šuplja stijena) – Opačac – Vrelaza – Dupilo” starts in the settlement and leads 4.8 kilometres to the Opačac Pool. The return route follows a stream upstream through the valley. The pool is the named destination of the loop; the return along the water describes another section of the route. Its easy rating and specific distance give you two points of reference when considering this hike for your plans.

A second official circular route runs along the south side of the valley. Its detour crosses a meadow to a naturally formed pool with a waterfall. This gives it a different described route from the loop to the Opačac Pool: here, the south side of the valley and the meadow path to the waterfall are the main features. Both routes are circular hikes, but they focus on different natural features and sections of trail.

The 7.5-kilometre Orahovštica Trail passed the Donji Brčeli Monastery and the Opačac Bridge on an organised tour in 2022, continuing to Šuplja stijena in Dupilo. It is longer than the 4.8-kilometre loop and combines walking with natural and cultural points in the Orahovštica Valley. It thus adds a route to the circular trails that includes not only its destination in Dupilo but also the monastery and bridge.

Trail conditions may change; natural features and trail conditions on the second circular route may also vary seasonally. Check conditions before your hike.
