The Hoshaya Singletrack, Kfar Kedem and Oryaita Gallery represent three distinct points of interest: outdoor activity, hands-on culture, and art with texts. To choose what suits you, first decide what you want your stay to focus on: would you mainly like to spend time outdoors or explore cultural offerings?

Singletrack and practical information

The Hoshaya Singletrack runs around Hoshaya and has an elevation gain of 100 metres. On the climb, there is a viewpoint with a bench beneath a tree. This makes the route’s specific elevation profile and a notable stop along the way key features. If you are planning to ride the trail during your stay, check the current trail conditions before setting out.

From Route 77, heading towards Hoshaya, you will reach a small parking area with a large sign at the trail entrance after about 500 m. Check the route before your trip; the sign marks the entrance on site. This information will help you find the starting point without assuming a particular journey time.

Hands-on culture and art in Hoshaya

At Kfar Kedem in Hoshaya, hands-on activities involving the production of household goods such as milk, wool and bread are linked to the values and ideas of biblical and Mishnaic times. The focus is on connecting practical activities with historical interpretation. The examples of milk, wool and bread highlight the hands-on nature of this cultural offering.

Oryaita Gallery offers exhibition tours and discussions, as well as workshops that bring art and texts together. Ask your host in advance about the availability of these offerings during your visit. The cultural experiences differ: Kfar Kedem connects hands-on activities with historical ideas, while the gallery focuses on exhibitions, art and texts.

You can choose what to explore in Hoshaya based on the interest you want to shape your stay: outdoor activity, hands-on culture, or art and exhibitions. These different focuses give you several starting points for planning, rather than prescribing a single itinerary.

Archaeological highlights in the wider destination of the Northern District

Tel Hazor and Tel Megiddo offer a different focus in the wider destination of the Northern District from the activities in Hoshaya. Tel Hazor is a biblical tell with significant remains of a city associated with biblical accounts; the visit focuses on the upper city. Archaeological features include Solomon’s Gate, a gate with six chambers and two towers dating to the 10th century BCE.

The Canaanite palace at Tel Hazor was used by the kings of Hazor in the 14th and 13th centuries BCE. The Late Bronze Age palace is considered the most elaborate in Israel and one of the most significant in the Levant. The water system offers another distinct highlight: it preserves significant remains of an underground water-collection system, an advanced engineering achievement adapted to the geography for water storage. Steps three metres wide are cut into the walls of the vertical shaft; the excavated shaft is 45 metres deep. Tel Hazor National Park can be reached from the north and south via Route 90 towards Ayelet HaShahar. Check your navigation before setting out.

Tel Megiddo is one of three tells that preserve significant remains of cities associated with biblical accounts and are closely linked to events in the Bible. The Early Bronze Age temple complex is exceptional for the number of its temples, the continuity of its religious activity and its documented ritual practices. The orthogonal city plan dates from the Iron Age and has few parallels in the Levant. By comparison, the archaeological focus at Hazor is on the upper city, gate and water system, while at Megiddo it is on the temple complex and urban planning.
