Yeroẖam brings together community-based tourism, wildlife watching, and culinary stories. Nearby, visitors can also explore water pools, rock carvings, and wildlife habitats. Travelers can choose from encounters and a range of nature-related themes, rather than following a single prescribed itinerary.

Community and guided nature experiences

Founded in 1990, the Atid Bamidbar association develops community-based tourism in Yeroẖam as a means of social change and of empowering residents economically and socially. This approach connects tourism offerings with local social and economic goals, giving a stay a broader perspective that goes beyond individual attractions. Atid Bamidbar is also involved in a variety of offerings—from encounters to a cooking project—providing a common thread between these themes.

The Duchifat Birding and Ecology association and its Israel Scorpion Research Laboratory offer the public bird and arthropod tours, instruction in bird ringing, scorpion tours, and night safaris. They also provide explanations about a light trap. The activities have different focuses: bird-related topics range from tours to ringing instruction, while scorpions and other arthropods draw attention to different groups of animals. Advance booking or coordination is required for the tours and activities described.

Atid Bamidbar also offers encounters with Bedouin women and Yeroẖam’s neighboring Bedouin community, as well as talks about the community. Alongside nature tours, the program therefore includes personal encounters and opportunities to learn about the community.

Culinary stories from Yeroẖam

At Atid Bamidbar’s cooking project, homemade food and warm hospitality come together with personal stories from Yeroẖam residents. The offering is intended for groups taking part in guided activities in Yeroẖam. The culinary experience is therefore about more than food: the residents’ stories are part of it, too.

The boutique beer brand Glantz tells a different culinary story. It was born in Yeroẖam from a passion for craft beer and the desert; with its original flavors and aromas, it tells the story of Yeroẖam. While the cooking project brings food and personal stories together, Glantz conveys its connection to the place through the brand’s flavors and aromas.

Landscape and wildlife nearby

Located near Yeroẖam, Nahal Shu'alim features water pools, viewpoints, prehistoric rock carvings, and high cliffs that provide habitats for diverse wildlife. Autumn crocuses bloom there seasonally in the fall. The landscape, archaeological traces, and seasonal blossoms come together here.

The park west of Yeroẖam adds another dimension to the natural surroundings: the Yeruham Lake ecosystem is home to numerous fish and amphibian species, as well as waterbirds and migratory birds. Comparing the nature themes, Nahal Shu'alim offers water pools, rock carvings, cliffs, and seasonal blooms; the lake is home to a variety of aquatic life and bird groups.
