More is a destination for travellers who would like to learn about the battles of More and their culture of remembrance. The Mores kauju muzejs and several memorial sites each focus on different aspects; Safari parks More adds a deer enclosure to the choice. A published cycling tour also passes several stops in the town.

Museum: Indoor and Outdoor Exhibitions

The Mores kauju muzejs devotes its indoor exhibition to the battles of More during the Second World War, as well as household and handicraft items from the 19th and 20th centuries. Military history and everyday objects are thus presented side by side. In the outdoor exhibition, a Soviet Army T-34 tank is the most remarkable exhibit. There is also a German above-ground bunker and various objects found on the battlefield. The indoor and outdoor areas thus show different parts of the museum’s collection.

Memorial Sites in More and Mores pagasts

The Mores kauju piemiņas parks was established in the centre of More at a former battlefield site. A memorial plaque engraved in granite bears the names of 186 soldiers who were killed or went missing in the battles of More. The LatvieÅ”u leÄ£ionāru brāļu kapi cemetery is located by the Roznēnu ozols oak on the Sigulda–More road in Mores pagasts. It commemorates 117 soldiers who were killed in the battles of More from 25 September to 6 October 1944.

The Red Army military cemetery in More is the final resting place of about 2,000 soldiers who fell during the Battle of More. In 1974, the cemetery was landscaped and a monument by sculptor B. Grīsle was erected. A memorial event for the fallen soldiers takes place in Mores pagasts every year on the last Saturday in September. If you would like to plan your trip around this date, check it before making your plans.

Deer Enclosure and Cycling Tour

Safari parks More covers a 170-hectare enclosure area where about 500 red deer, fallow deer and white red deer are kept. Advance registration is required for a visit. This makes it thematically different from the exhibitions and memorial sites: the focus here is on the enclosure and the deer species kept there.

The ā€œViena diena Mores apkaimÄ“ā€ cycling tour passes through the centre of More and includes the Mores kauju piemiņas parks, the Mores kauju muzejs and Safari parks More as additional stops. A bus is available for the Sigulda–More–Sigulda route; check the timetable in advance. This way, you can consider the cycling tour and bus connection as different options for your plans, without assuming a particular order or journey time.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment for a stay in More, the thematic distinction can help you choose your destination: the museum and memorial sites focus on the history of the battles, while Safari parks is about the deer enclosure. Discover more destinations: Allaži, Sigulda.
