Allaži offers two compelling perspectives for a stay: natural phenomena and cultural heritage. Linezers is a periodically disappearing lake. Other natural attractions include the Kaļķugravas springs, the Mežmuižas avoti Nature Reserve and the Černauski Great Oak. Another side of the destination can be discovered through the Allaži Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Černausku cult stone and the mobile exhibition “Allaž laipni Allažos”. When planning your trip, you can first consider whether you are more interested in landscapes and trails or in architecture and history.

Water, Springs and Natural Features

The Mežmuižas avoti Nature Reserve covers 27 hectares. Boardwalks and steps have been built for visitors at the Kaļķugravas springs in Allaži parish. The number of springs varies from three to 14, depending on rainfall. Linezers displays a different kind of change: the lake periodically drains underground, and its water level changes naturally. At the springs, the number varies; at the lake, it is the water level and periodic underground outflow that change. Check the current condition of the boardwalks and steps before visiting.

The Černauski Great Oak adds a striking natural feature to the area’s water attractions: it has a circumference of 6.9 metres. Protected shiny ants live in its hollow. For nature lovers, Allaži offers a variety of natural features: the number of Kaļķugravas springs varies with rainfall, while protected shiny ants live in the hollow of the Černauski Great Oak.

Walking Trails, a Driving Route and the Bus

Two walking trails were created in Allaži’s nature trail network in 2001. One leads from Linezers to the Pandu bog; check the current condition of the trails locally. The nature trail network also includes a driving route of about 50 kilometres. This is a different option from the two walking trails: one is a motorised route, while the other is for walking. The route is in the Allaži area.

Allaži can be reached by bus on the Riga–Allaži–Sigulda route. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable in advance.

Architecture and Local History

The Allaži Evangelical Lutheran Church is a state-listed architectural monument. It was built in 1926 to a design by architect Pauls Kundziņš.

The Černausku cult stone is 1.7 metres high and has a circumference of 16.7 metres. It is also known as Ezernieku Stone. Historical sources mention it as the “Great Stone” as early as 1739; for several centuries, farmers made offerings at the stone. The measurements describe the natural monument, while the historical references reflect its long cultural significance.

The mobile exhibition “Allaž laipni Allažos” explores the history of Allaži Manor, the former distillery, the manor owners and the caraway liqueur “Allažu ķimelis”. It is intended for individual and group visits; additional visiting times can be arranged by prior appointment. Arrange a specific visiting time in advance.
