At Kibbutz Gadot, Jordan Banks Dairy produces cheeses from cow’s and goat’s milk using natural ingredients and no preservatives. The archaeological site of Khirbet Yarda and the Crusader fortress of Metzad Ateret are nearby.

Local Connections, History, and Hiking

Gadot Holiday Village is located at Kibbutz Gadot. This makes it possible to distinguish the location of the accommodation from the historical themes of the surrounding area.

The archaeological site of Khirbet Yarda preserves the remains of a 19th-century farmhouse. Its history is connected with the battles of the War of Independence. Archaeological traces and a historical connection to the conflict of the war can therefore be found side by side.

At the Crusader fortress of Metzad Ateret, there is a short hike and a somewhat longer family hike that includes a section along the Jordan River. The specific differences to consider when choosing are the relative length and the Jordan River section of the longer hike. You can compare the two options by route length and the landscape connection you are looking for.

Archaeological Perspectives in the Northern District

In the broader travel destination of the Northern District, Tel Hazor and Tel Megiddo form a regional archaeological theme. Tel Hazor is a biblical tell with significant remains of a city with biblical connections. Tel Megiddo is one of three tells that preserve significant remains of cities with biblical connections and are closely associated with events from the Bible.

A visit to Tel Hazor focuses on the Upper City. Solomon’s Gate dates to the 10th century BCE and has six chambers and two towers. A Canaanite palace was used by the kings of Hazor in the 14th and 13th centuries BCE. The Late Bronze Age palace is described as the most elaborate in Israel and one of the most significant in the Levant. The excavated shaft is 45 meters deep; in the water system, steps three meters wide are cut into the walls of the vertical shaft. The underground water-collection system represents a sophisticated engineering achievement, adapted to the geography, for storing water. The fortifications are considered the finest example of their kind in the area stretching from southern Turkey to the northern Negev.

Tel Hazor National Park can be reached from the north and south via Route 90 in the direction of Ayelet Hashahar. Check your navigation before setting out.

The Early Bronze Age temple complex at Tel Megiddo is exceptional in terms of the number of its temples, the continuity of religious activity, and its documented ritual practices. The orthogonal city plan dates from the Iron Age and has few parallels in the Levant. For a thematic comparison, the focus at Tel Hazor is on the water system, gate, and fortifications, while at Tel Megiddo it is on temple worship and urban planning.
