Purwakarta offers several very different ways to explore the destination: the Jatiluhur Reservoir combines a vast expanse of water with water sports, while at Plered you can experience ceramic making firsthand. Galeri Wayang and Bale Panyawangan Diorama Purwakarta offer different ways to engage with cultural topics; at Mount Lembu and Pasir Langlang Panyawangan, the focus is on trails and scenery. This lets you shape your visit around your own interests without letting any one theme overshadow the others.

Jatiluhur: Reservoir, Getting Around and Water Sports

The Jatiluhur Dam forms a reservoir of approximately 83 km², with a shoreline measuring 150 km. These figures give you a sense of the scale of this landscape. At the dam, Grama Tirta Jatiluhur offers canoeing, water skiing and windsurfing. If one of these activities is important to your plans, check what is currently available on site.

The dam is located in Kecamatan Jatiluhur, Kabupaten Purwakarta, approximately 7 km west of the city of Purwakarta. From Jakarta, it can be reached via the Jakarta–Cikampek and Cipularang toll roads; from Bandung, take the Cipularang toll road. For your travel plans, check the latest route information and road conditions.

Explore Wayang and Ceramics

At Galeri Wayang, visitors can handle or play with collections of Wayang Kulit and Wayang Golek, as well as masks for Wayang Orang. These different forms offer a hands-on introduction to wayang figures and masks: you encounter them not just as exhibits, but can also pick them up yourself.

At UPTD Litbang Keramik Plered, you can learn how to make ceramic vessels through hands-on practice. Educational institutions and community groups can also use the facilities provided there to learn ceramic making. The UPTD is also dedicated to preserving a cultural ceramics heritage. Efforts to preserve it date back to 1904, so ceramics here offer both a practical experience and a historical connection.

Bale Panyawangan Diorama Purwakarta offers another cultural perspective. It presents the history and development of Purwakarta through a combination of archives, art and technology. Together with Galeri Wayang and the ceramics in Plered, this makes it possible to plan a visit that brings different forms of culture side by side: hands-on craft, figures and masks, and a presentation of the region’s history.

Water Park and Wildlife at Cikao Park

Cikao Park has a wave pool, a children’s pool, an adult pool, a foam pool and a lazy river. The park’s different water areas offer a range of experiences, from the wave pool to the more leisurely river pool. The park also includes Taman Satwa, with exotic animals, unusual insects and dinosaurs. The animals on display may change.

Mountains, Forest and Waterfalls

Gunung Parang is an andesite mountain in Kabupaten Purwakarta. Mount Lembu has challenging trails for trekking and hiking. If you would rather pair an outing with scenery than with water sports or culture, this offers a different focus within the destination, though you should take the challenge of the trails into account when planning.

Pasir Langlang Panyawangan is located in Pasir Muncang, Kecamatan Kiarapedes, Kabupaten Purwakarta, and offers views of a pine forest. Visitors to the Pasir Langlang Panyawangan area can also experience Curug Pamoyanan Indah waterfall. The area around Curug Cipurut is considered a camping spot for Saturdays and Sundays.

Taman Air Mancur Sri Baduga is located in Kecamatan Purwakarta, Kelurahan Negeri Kidul. The fountain is considered the largest in Southeast Asia. Its location in the city of Purwakarta makes it another specific place to visit, alongside the destination’s nature and cultural sites.
