Thermal baths, church art and a seasonal forest railway give Lenti a range of distinct attractions. St. Michael’s Parish Church was completed in 1698 and dedicated to St. Michael; the remains of fortifications can be seen at Lenti Castle. The town also offers several indoor and outdoor pools, along with an extensive green space. If you’re looking for a hotel in Lenti, you can first consider whether thermal bathing or cultural and railway history should shape your stay.

Church Art and Castle Ruins

Frescoes by István Dorffmeister Jr. adorn the choir and the first section of the three-bay nave in St. Michael’s Parish Church. This makes the church’s artistic features a focal point alongside its completion date and dedication. The frescoes are located in specific areas of the church interior.

The former moat and a bastion can be seen at Lenti Castle. Medieval remains are located in the cellar of a barn built in the 18th century using parts of the castle. The castle site thus combines visible traces of its fortifications with the later reuse of castle materials.

Thermal Baths with Several Pool Areas

The largest pool at the Lenti Thermal Baths covers 1,340 m². Its features include a wild-water channel, neck massage jets, massage benches and a 74-metre-long Anaconda slide. The size gives an idea of the scale of the largest pool, while the listed features show the different experiences offered by the water facilities.

The thermal baths also have five outdoor pools, three indoor pools and a partially covered hydromassage pool. An eight-hectare green space complements the pool areas. If you’re planning to make a visit to the baths the main purpose of your trip, you can choose between different types of pools and a larger green area within the bath complex.

Forest Railway and Railway History

The forest railway line between Lenti and Kistolmács is 33 kilometres long, with scheduled passenger trains running from late April to the end of September. If you’re planning a ride, check the current timetable before your trip. This seasonal operating period is therefore a specific factor when choosing when to travel, but it does not indicate a particular departure time.

The exhibitions at the forest railway station also explore railway and forestry history. A 2019 project publication describes the exhibition “Forest and tree, Zala forest, treasure of Göcsej” in the exhibition rooms of Lenti forest railway station, covering forestry, sawmills and railway history. A 2019 visitor brochure also mentions a railway history exhibition in the waiting room, featuring a model of the forest railway and an interactive map. If you’re planning to visit an exhibition, check in advance what visitor options are currently available.

Zala as a Regional Context

Within the wider travel destination of Zala, Zalai Borvidék offers a distinct landscape. It developed on the slopes and plateaus of the Zalai-dombság and on the northwestern slopes of the Keszthelyi-hegység, and comprises two wine-growing districts and 38 settlements. This offers a different perspective on the wider region from Lenti’s cultural and bathing attractions.

Another regional highlight is Kis-Balaton: it is Zala’s largest body of water, is strictly protected and covers 14,745 hectares. It is also the setting for István Fekete’s classic novels “Tüskevár” and “Téli berek.” The wine-growing landscape and protected wetland offer further themes in the wider travel destination of Zala, distinct from the specific attractions of Lenti.
