Zánka combines a well-developed bathing area with themed trails, knowledge of herbs and local history. When choosing a hotel, it is worth first deciding what you want to focus on during your stay: the beach and the Balaton Cycle Route give your plans a different focus than the themed trails or historic sites. This lets you tailor your stay to specific interests rather than centering it on just one attraction.

Beach, cycle route and themed trails

Zánka’s beach is a landscaped bathing and service complex covering 27,000 square meters, with two entrances. Its size makes the beach a clear focus when planning a visit to the town; at the same time, its operation may vary by season. If the bathing area is a deciding factor for your travel dates, check the current operating conditions before your visit. The Balaton Cycle Route runs alongside the beach, adding a distinct planning option alongside time spent at the bathing complex.

There are also several themed options for exploring on foot: four trails in Zánka connect local history, street art, Szekeres and the lakeshore. Their themes therefore extend beyond the beach and offer different ways to discover the town. You can choose a trail based on the subject that interests you most. As trail conditions may change, it is advisable to check for updates before setting out.

Herbs and plant processing

At Gyógynövény-völgy, visitors can explore plants and take part in practical activities. The show garden features a seasonally changing collection of more than 400 medicinal plants, so the plants on display may vary depending on the time of year. Visitors can make their own herbal products in the workshop and propagation garden. They can also observe and try practical steps in plant processing. The difference between the offerings may be useful when planning a visit: the show garden focuses on the changing plant collection, while the workshop and processing activities involve specific practical steps. Check the current arrangements before visiting.

Local history across different periods

Zánka’s local history spans different periods. The Reformed Church was built in the 12th century. The Tájház illustrates the town’s history in the 18th and 19th centuries through old objects. Thus, a medieval building and a portrayal of later local history stand side by side. Visiting both offers two different ways to understand Zánka’s past: through the age of a building and through objects that turn attention to the centuries that followed.

A geological perspective on North Balaton

In the wider North Balaton destination, Hegyestű is a 337-meter-high mountain between Zánka and Monoszló. At Hegyestű, the inner face of a basalt volcano that was active around eight million years ago is exposed. From a viewpoint on the western edge of the quarry grounds, visitors can use a panoramic board to identify the surrounding hills. Hegyestű also has a rock garden featuring characteristic rock types of Transdanubia, the western half of Hungary. These geological features offer a different focus from Zánka’s beach, themed trails and local history, and complement the broader destination.
