Nine circular walking trails are recommended in Súr; each starts in the town center and returns there. Churches, the park on the central square with the “Tree of Life,” and the fishing lake add cultural attractions and other local destinations to the choice of trails. You can reach the lake from the center on foot, by bicycle or by car.

Walking Trails with Different Stops

One route with a particularly large number of stops is the 3.8-kilometer Lombkorona-sétány Tour. It leads from the town center past Köztársasági elnök fája, Életfa, Harangjáték, Deák utcai feszület, Pipitér, Kastélykert, Urasági szőlőhegy, Panoráma-sétány, Lombkorona-sétány and Rovarszálloda, then back to the town center.

The 4.9-kilometer Görbe-dűlő Tour follows a circular route from the town center past Bányász csille and Napóra, then back. The 7.4-kilometer Szentkút Tour leads, among other places, to Szentkúti kápolna, “II. János Pál pápa által megáldott feszület” and Szentkúti forrás; it also returns to the town center along a circular route.

The comparison helps you narrow down your options by distance: at 7.4 kilometers, Szentkút is the longest of the three routes described here and is 2.5 kilometers longer than Görbe-dűlő at 4.9 kilometers. The Lombkorona route is the shortest at 3.8 kilometers. All three start and finish in the town center. As route availability may change, check the information before setting out.

Churches and Local History

The Catholic church in Súr is Baroque and dates from 1785. In the Evangelical Lutheran church, a carillon with twelve bells plays throughout the day. The “Tree of Life,” an artistic depiction of the town’s history, stands in the park on the central square. The cultural highlights therefore range from Baroque architectural history to music and a visual depiction of local history.

Lake and Mountain Cart

Súr’s fishing lake can be reached from the town center on foot, by bicycle or by car. You can take these options into account when planning your visit, regardless of your preferred mode of transport. For mountain carting, the vehicle is attached to your body with a special harness, leaving your hands free; the ascent takes you up a hill, followed by a downhill ride. If you plan to take part in this activity, check in advance whether it will be available when you visit.

Komorn-Gran: Landscape and Cultural Heritage

In the wider Komorn-Gran travel destination, the Gerecsei Tájvédelmi Körzet is a distinct natural attraction. The protected area is of national significance and has its own designation, is located in Komárom-Esztergom, and covers 8,676 hectares. Triassic limestone predominates in the Gerecse; Jurassic limestone is also found there and is particularly rich in fossils. Cultural heritage is also part of the region’s thematic offering: Majki Kamalduli Remeteség is a Baroque monument complex with seventeen hermit houses, a church tower and a monastery. An exhibition at the hermitage presents the general and Hungarian history of the Camaldolese order.
