A 360-metre-long paved walking path runs in Tiszavárkony from the municipal office building to the beach entrance. Its manageable length and clearly named endpoints make it a well-defined local activity. Nearby, memorial sites offer insight into various historical themes of the town—from the presumed setting of a royal scene to memorials commemorating those who fell in the world wars and their victims.

Memorial Sites in Tiszavárkony

In the outskirts of Tiszavárkony, a memorial column marks the presumed site of the “Crown and Sword” scene between Béla I and Endre. The reference to the presumed setting is part of the monument’s historical context. The memorial park also features a Korona és Kard kopjafa, a carved memorial post made in 2019 to mark the 960th anniversary.

Another place of remembrance is the park at Hősök tere in central Tiszavárkony. It was renovated in 2019; candelabra illuminate the grounds, which are surfaced with gravel and paving stones. The park is also home to a 3.5-metre-high memorial stone to those who fell in the First World War. It was unveiled on 28 November 1924. The names of the victims from Tiszavárkony are inscribed on four enamel plaques on a memorial post to the victims of the Second World War.

Walking and Other Travel Interests

The Tiszavárkonyi gyalogos sétány is also paved. It links the municipal office building to the beach entrance and is 360 metres long. This makes it easy to think of the route as a short walk in its own right. The memorial sites described here offer a different local focus: they commemorate the “Crown and Sword” and the victims of both world wars. If you are choosing a holiday rental based on the character of the place, you will find a distinctive mix here of remembrance and a short walk.

The Kiss-Pál Museum in Tiszafüred is one of Hungary’s oldest rural museums. It is housed in a Neoclassical manor house built by the Lipcsey family in the first half of the 19th century. Its permanent exhibitions focus, on the one hand, on Tiszafüred’s archaeological past, spanning around 7,000 years, and, on the other, on ethnography, with outstanding pieces from the 17th and 18th centuries. Check the exhibition schedule before your visit. The museum also includes the Nyúzó-Gáspár Pottery House, where visitors can see evidence of the once-popular local pottery craft and the original living environment.
