Two distinct water stories give Túrkeve its own profile: the history of artesian wells and a medicinal spa with medical services. The Reformed Church and nature-related themes add to these. You can tailor your stay to specific interests—from thermal waters and well construction to architecture and the landscape.

Thermal Waters and Well Construction

The Túrkeve Termál- és Élményfürdő offers medical services at a modern medicinal spa. Its therapeutic water reaches the surface at 78°C from a depth of 2,351 metres. This puts both the spa’s services and the temperature and depth of its thermal water at the centre of attention.

The Kútskanzen develops a related theme from a different perspective. It presents wells ranging from draw wells to wheel wells. Six panels trace the history of artesian well drilling in the 19th century. The Kútskanzen also commemorates the Zsigmondy brothers, experts in artesian well drilling. The exhibition thus brings together different perspectives: well types, the history of drilling technology and the memory of specialists. Those interested in the history of technology will find a distinct focus here alongside the modern medicinal spa.

The Reformed Church: History and Organ

Túrkeve’s Reformed Church is one of the city’s oldest buildings and was consecrated on 7 December 1755. Its Baroque tower is 42 metres high, with the gallery at a height of 18 metres. From there, neighbouring towns are visible. These measurements provide a clear architectural context for the building, while the date of its consecration adds historical context.

The Angster organ is also described in precise terms: it has 930 pipes and 17 stops, was fully restored in 2014 and remains in use. The church thus brings both its architectural history and an instrument that is still used into focus. For a culture-focused trip, it offers a different perspective from the Kútskanzen: the latter explores wells and drilling technology, while the church focuses on ecclesiastical architecture and the organ.

Landscape and Nature

Túrkeve lies on the right bank of the Hortobágy-Berettyó Main Canal. The city’s administrative area borders the Dévaványai-Ecsegi puszták, a protected area since 1975. The Körös-Maros National Park has preserved much of the natural beauty around Túrkeve.

The national park directorate has established cycling routes in the Dévaványai-Ecsegi puszták. Another way to explore nature is the Fekete-István nature trail, which you can visit independently or with an expert guide. There are different ways to experience the landscape: cycling routes in the area and a nature trail you can explore on your own or with a guide.

A Further Glimpse of Local Festival Culture

The Kevi Juhászfesztivál has a history spanning more than 15 years. It adds another cultural aspect of Túrkeve to the town’s architectural and technological history. When planning your trip, you can first choose a focus: thermal baths and therapeutic water, well construction, church architecture or nature. Each offers a different point of interest, and your stay need not be limited to just one.
