Mezőtúr combines the long tradition of Túri ceramics with the river and floodplain landscapes of the Hortobágy-Berettyó. Cultural history and outdoor activities offer different ways to shape your stay. As you plan, consider whether you are mainly interested in pottery and architectural history, or whether you would also like to explore the landscape and its activities.

Túri ceramics and a living cultural heritage

The permanent exhibition “A mezőtúri fazekasság évszázadai” traces 250 years of Túri pottery. It features local ceramic works dating from the late 18th century to selected pieces from the 21st century. The history of the craft goes back further: potters were already working in Mezőtúr in the 16th century. This creates an interesting relationship between the long history of local pottery and the time span represented by the surviving exhibits.

The revived Túri vásár also places local crafts in a broader cultural context. Held every August in Erzsébet liget, it showcases folk art, crafts, folk dance, and folk music. Event details may change, so check the dates before your trip.

Visitor center and getting oriented

The Mezőtúri Református Látogatóközpont includes the Belvárosi Nagytemplom, the Ókönyvtár, the Díszterem, and the Városi Galéria. Tower visits and guided tours are available by appointment. If you would like to include these cultural sites in your plans, arrange your visit in advance.

The Mezőtúri Turisztikai Információs Iroda offers free publications, event brochures, and themed maps. These provide different kinds of information, whether you are exploring cultural topics or planning which activities to choose. Mezőtúri Strandfürdő és Fedett Uszoda is also among Mezőtúr’s visitor facilities; check current operating and opening arrangements before visiting.

Hortobágy-Berettyó and outdoor activities

The Hortobágy-Berettyó is one of Mezőtúr’s notable natural assets. Landscape features in the surrounding area include the river floodplain and extensive grassland habitats on the landward side of the flood protection embankments. The natural setting thus extends from the river corridor to the grasslands around Mezőtúr.

The river section near Mezőtúr is suitable for canoe trips, and cycling is possible on the embankments along the Hortobágy-Berettyó. Paddling and cycling offer different experiences: canoe trips take you onto the river, while cycling follows the embankments along its banks. Angling tourism and a rich fish fauna also play a role in the area. The surrounding grasslands are destinations for riding routes, adding another activity to the options.

A visitor notice from 2023 mentions SUP and e-scooter rentals at VII. utca 18; check before your trip whether the service is currently available. Bicycle rental at Mezőtúri Városi Strandfürdő is another possibility. It is best to check availability in advance.
