In 1943, thermal water containing large amounts of dissolved minerals was discovered in Cserkeszölö during a borehole exploration for hydrocarbons. Thermal water provides a thematic link between the bathing facilities, the explanation at Kútház and Nagy-Fertő. Cultural history and a specific activity for children round out the offer. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider whether thermal baths, nature or the history of the Kúria should be the focus of your stay.

Thermal Water at the Baths and Kútház

Cserkeszőlő Gyógy- és Strandfürdő has 19 pools, water slides, and beach volleyball and beach soccer courts. Cserkeszőlő Strandfürdő covers about 7.5 hectares; some of the pools are also open in winter. These figures offer different kinds of guidance: the area indicates the overall size of the bathing grounds, while the pools and sports courts describe specific leisure activities.

At Kútház, the thermal water itself is the focus. An interactive exhibition and tactile exhibits explain its origin and composition. During a visit, you can watch Healing Water Well No. I and taste its water. Here, the emphasis is on explanation and hands-on exhibits, while the outdoor baths offer pools and other leisure activities.

Nature: Nagy-Fertő and Aranyosi tölgyfák

The natural wetland of Nagy-Fertő is protected by law and is continually supplied with water from the thermal water discharged by Cserkeszőlő Strandfürdő. The water at Nagy-Fertő does not freeze in winter; the area is an important wintering ground for several bird species. For winter travel, these are two distinct aspects to consider: some of the pools remain open, while Nagy-Fertő is significant as a wintering ground.

The Aranyosi tölgyfák oak trees lie southwest of the Cserkeszölö resort and are about a 15-minute bike ride away. According to local tradition, their acorns were planted in the sand in the 1850s. Today, 11 English oaks (Quercus robur) remain. The approximate cycling time gives you a specific timeframe for this excursion, without conflating the historical account with the trees that remain today.

Baghy-Szinyei Merse Kúria: History and Exhibitions

The Baghy-Szinyei Merse Kúria in Cserkeszőlő-Tópartpuszta grew out of an estate manager’s residence built in the 19th century. It was later extended after Kandó Irén married Szinyei Merse Félix. The Kúria’s wine cellar has been a protected historic monument since 1983. This protection applies to the wine cellar; the Kúria also offers a cultural and culinary focus.

The Kúria has permanent and temporary exhibitions. At the display kitchen, visitors can enjoy a selection of local wines, wine jelly made from them, spirits, soft drinks and coffee. The Kúria’s programme therefore includes both exhibitions and local drinks and products.

Learn the Rules of the Road Through Play

At Cserkeszőlői Gyermek Autós Közlekedési Park, the KRESZ Park, children learn the rules of the road through play. After a brief introduction and a practice round, they receive a personalised plastic driving licence with their photo on it. It is valid for two years for the park’s Class A vehicles. This activity provides a distinct focus alongside the baths, nature and cultural heritage.
