Warder brings together a nature park, a trail through the village and local cultural attractions. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Warder, you can choose between an interest in nature and an interest in culture; Lake Warder, the nature park hiking trail and attractions in Warder and Alt MĂĽhlendorf are named points of reference when choosing a specific location.

Landscape and hiking in Warder

Warder is located in Westensee–Obere Eider Nature Park; Lake Warder is part of its nature-focused landscape. The nature park hiking trail runs through Warder. The lake and the trail offer different ways to experience nature: the lake is a local landscape feature, while the route is a specific connection to hiking. If you would rather focus on scenery or exercise during your stay, you can weigh these two aspects of the area separately.

Watermill and stone park

Visitor attractions include the old watermill in Alt MĂĽhlendorf and Warder Stone Park. The stone park is an open-air sculpture gallery between Warder and Alt MĂĽhlendorf, and can be visited at Gut Seehof by the lake. As it is privately managed, please check access before visiting. The location details distinguish between the attractions: the mill is in Alt MĂĽhlendorf, while the gallery is between Warder and Alt MĂĽhlendorf. In terms of their content, a single building and a gallery of outdoor sculptures are presented side by side.

Getting there

The Warder exit on the A7 is in AltmĂĽhlendorf, a district of Warder. You can use the exit name together with the district as a reference when planning your journey.

Rendsburg-Eckernförde: the wider area

The wider travel destination of Rendsburg-Eckernförde district has 55 kilometres of Baltic Sea coastline and a signposted cycle network covering 1,000 kilometres. The district is home to four nature parks. The nature park hiking trail runs through Warder and covers 180 kilometres at regional level, passing through the district’s four nature parks.

Westensee–Obere Eider Nature Park is characterised by numerous lake systems in the Schleswig-Holstein Uplands. It includes Lake Westensee, which covers around 7 km² and is a popular excursion destination. In fine weather, the 98-metre-high Aschberg offers panoramic views reaching as far as the Kiel Canal, Eckernförde Bay and the state capital, Kiel. Around 70 kilometres, or two thirds, of the Kiel Canal run through Rendsburg-Eckernförde district.

Cultural attractions are also part of the wider travel destination: Rendsburg’s old town dates back to the 13th century and is still characterised by medieval buildings. The Jewish Museum in Rendsburg is housed in Schleswig-Holstein’s oldest surviving synagogue and is both a historic listed building and a memorial site. In addition to its museum grounds, the Molfsee Open-Air Museum features a historic fairground with two carousels, a swing boat, a strength tester and a large playground. Eckernförde has a four-kilometre-long white sandy beach. The town is also associated with smoking sprats and other small fish; the famous “Kiel sprats” actually come from the fishing town of Eckernförde.
