Felde is located in Westensee Nature Park. Nearby Westensee offers opportunities for swimming, fishing and boating; numerous hiking and cycling trails also cross the surrounding landscape. This means there are different ways to plan your trip: days by the water and explorations on foot or by bike. If you would like to combine both, you can spread the activities over several days and plan your travel arrangements accordingly.

Moorland and forest landscape

Hasenmoor Foundation Land lies in the triangle between Felde, Achterwehr and Jägerslust. Hasenmoor covers 80 hectares and is predominantly forested. Its forest types include beech forests, oak and birch forests, as well as alder, birch and willow carrs. The return of the adder is also associated with Hasenmoor; the species is considered endangered throughout Germany.

Hiking trails with different points of reference

The “Through Felder Gehölz” hiking trail starts at Seekartenweg by Felder See. It leads through the forest and offers views of Westensee. Both the lakeside starting point and the transition into the forest help orient you along this route.

The Eidertal hiking route runs between Westensee and Ahrensee and returns via Achterwehr. The named points of reference are therefore quite different: the Felder Gehölz route focuses on Felder See, the forest and views of Westensee, while the Eidertal route takes in Westensee, Ahrensee and Achterwehr. When choosing a tour, you can consider which landscape and local points of reference best suit your planned outing.

Getting there by train and bus

Felde station connects the town with Kiel and Rendsburg. There are bicycle parking spaces and a car park there; passenger information and wayfinding have also been improved. Bus route 765 runs hourly and is timed to coincide with train arrivals and departures. It runs via Westensee and GroĂź Vollstedt to Nortorf; it also travels via Achterwehr, Quarnbek, Ottendorf and Kronshagen to Kiel. Bicycle parking may be useful when travelling by train with a bike, while the car park is an option for those arriving by car.

When planning your trip, it is helpful that the bus services are coordinated with the train connections. Check the current timetable before setting off, as bus services can change. This lets you tailor your journey to your own destinations and the connection that suits you, rather than planning solely around the route of a single mode of transport.

The wider travel destination of Rendsburg-Eckernförde

Looking beyond Felde to the wider travel destination of Rendsburg-Eckernförde reveals a larger regional setting. The district includes 55 kilometres of Baltic Sea coastline and a 1,000-kilometre network of signposted cycle routes. It is also home to four nature parks; the 180-kilometre Nature Park Hiking Trail passes through all four. Around 70 kilometres, or two-thirds, of the Kiel Canal also runs through Rendsburg-Eckernförde district.

Westensee-Obere Eider Nature Park is also part of this wider picture: it is characterised by numerous lake complexes in the Schleswig-Holstein Uplands. The park includes Westensee, which covers around 7 km² and is a popular destination for day trips. The coast, cycle route network and Nature Park Hiking Trail give an idea of the range of regional interests; the hiking trails near Felde and Westensee, by contrast, offer specific guidance for choosing individual activities.

Choose accommodation to suit your travel plans

If travelling by train or bus, it is also worth checking the timetable for your travel dates. If you would like to combine several activities, include them together with your travel route in your search.
