Hanerau-Hademarschen is located in a Geest landscape characterized by hedgerows and forests. It is also home to a local history museum, a signal box museum, St. Severin Church and the Hademarscher Berge, which offer a viewpoint.

Geest Landscape and the Hademarscher Berge

The Hademarscher Berge rise up to 67 meters above the Holstein landscape. Nine prehistoric sites can be found in their parkland. Visitors can also see a megalithic tomb; at the highest point, a converted anti-aircraft tower serves as a viewpoint. This area thus brings together landscape views and traces of prehistory as distinct features.

Museums and History

The Hanerau-Hademarschen local history museum has rooms devoted to East Germany and a Theodor Storm room. It also documents the history of the Kiel Canal and the GrĂĽnentaler HochbrĂĽcke. Literary, contemporary historical and technical subjects come together here.

The signal box museum focuses more closely on railway technology. Its main attraction is an old signal box; its technical equipment shows how signal box work functioned in the second half of the 20th century. St. Severin offers a different perspective on time: the oldest parts of the church are almost 1,100 years old. The various themes thus range from the history of technology to very old church structures.
