Plan your stay in Köhn around specific destinations: field and forest trails lie within the municipality, and Hohenfelde’s Baltic Sea beach can be reached via a cycling route. The bathing area in Pülsen lies on Lake Selent. These places offer different highlights for a stay.

Field and forest trails, the Mühlenau and the Baltic Sea

The field and forest trails in Köhn are ideal for hiking and cycling. Bisterfeld Forest is a destination for walks; the woodlands of Bisterfeld and Pülser Vieh, near Köhn, also offer trails in a natural setting.

The Mühlenau flows through the municipality of Köhn. It is the only direct outflow from Lake Selent to the Baltic Sea; many sections of its banks in Köhn are protected.

The shortest route from Köhn to Hohenfelde’s Baltic Sea beach is 6 km long; a cycle path runs along its entire length. This connects a beach destination with a specific cycling route.

Pülsen bathing area on Lake Selent

A shallow, unguarded bathing cove lies in Pülsen on Lake Selent. The bathing area has sunbathing lawns, a playground and accessible toilets. The cove is a nature reserve. Sailing and stand-up paddleboarding are not permitted at the bathing area because it is surrounded by a protected area.

Sailors and surfers can access Lake Selent from Pratjau/Fargau or Grabensee. These access points for such activities should be distinguished from the Pülsen bathing area.

Historical traces and culture

Köhn was first mentioned in a document in 1404. Pülsen was mentioned in 1362, 42 years before Köhn’s first documented mention.

Salzau Castle can be reached from Köhn by bicycle. It was once a cultural centre and the venue for annual music events, including JazzBaltica.

Plön as a regional setting

When exploring the wider destination of Plön, it is worth looking at the district of Plön as a whole: it encompasses around 80 lakes and almost 50 km of Baltic Sea coastline. Great Plön Lake, at 29 km², and Lake Selent, at 22 km², are Schleswig-Holstein’s two largest lakes. Large parts of the district are within the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park, which covers 75,000 hectares.

In the district of Plön, you can explore the Schwentine waterway by canoe; lakes are also used by sailboats and excursion boats. The signposted cycle route network in the district of Plön covers 850 km; its route may change in the future.

The 6 km connection to Hohenfelde and the district of Plön’s 850 km network represent different scales: the first is a specific cycling route from Köhn to the Baltic Sea beach, while the second describes the size of a regional cycle route network. This makes it possible to consider a single excursion and broader cycling plans separately.
