Quickborn offers several reasons to stay: St. Mary’s Church reveals several phases of construction, the Nature Experience Area connects two garden sections, and the Himmelmoor Tour heads towards the moor. The outdoor pool and Jumping Point offer their own opportunities for exercise. When looking for a hotel in Quickborn, it helps to decide first whether local history, nature or active recreation should shape your stay.

Building History and Local Landmarks

St. Mary’s Church was consecrated in 1809 as Quickborn’s first sacred building. The Danish court architect Christian Frederik Hansen designed it. The Neo-Romanesque tower was added in 1863; the church has been a listed historic monument since 1968. These three dates distinguish the consecration, a later addition and the church’s designation as a historic monument.

Other places also point to Quickborn’s history. The former road-maintenance worker’s house at Kieler Straße 7 is part of the historic industrial monument on Kieler Straße. A fountain at Börnplatz commemorates the historic livestock watering trough from which the name Quickborn developed. The square was officially opened on May 6, 2026; check local notices before planning your visit. A memorial stele for Paul Warnecke was erected and unveiled in Birkenwäldchen in 2019. These examples highlight different aspects: former uses, the origin of the name and personal remembrance.

Gardens and Himmelmoor

In Quickborn’s Nature Experience Area, an accessible path connects the Sensory Garden with the Phenological Garden. The latter has a pavilion with information about phenology and current observations, as well as benches and tables. If you plan to visit both garden sections, check the path conditions and accessibility arrangements in advance. The information in the pavilion gives the Phenological Garden a focus of its own alongside the connecting path.

Himmelmoor is a 600-hectare moorland area that provides protected habitat for rare animals and plants. More than 250 years of peat extraction preceded the restoration work, which has been ongoing since 1980. This timeline contrasts a long history of use with continuing restoration. An educational trail with information boards and 15 activity stations offers another way to explore the moor; a historic peat railway also provides an opportunity to experience it.

For cyclists, the approximately 35-kilometre Himmelmoor Tour runs from Quickborn through meadows, fields and small roads towards Himmelmoor. Wulfsmühle on the mill pond is a stop along the way before the route reaches the moor. The approximate distance helps you gauge the length of the tour. Check current route information and path conditions before setting out.

Exercise and Getting There

Quickborn’s centrally located outdoor pool is accessible by bus and train. It has separate areas for non-swimmers and swimmers, a stainless-steel diving pool and a children’s paddling pool. Other facilities include a water mushroom, a current channel and a neck shower, as well as a large sunbathing lawn, a football area, a volleyball court and a bistro. Check current opening-season and access conditions before your visit.

Jumping Point Quickborn offers dodgeball, high jumping, foam pit tricks and several trampoline areas. This provides a different kind of exercise option alongside the outdoor pool. Activities and access may change; check the current conditions before your visit.

Quickborn railway station offers connections to Deutsche Bahn regional services. Check timetables and connections before travelling.
