Zwota offers several specific ways to plan a stay: hiking routes, regional collections and recurring event dates. You can plan around a route length, a museum or a festival date. Nature is part of the experience on the Hüttenbachtal nature trail and at the “Lange Bank” viewpoint, which looks out over Klingenthal and Zwota.

Hiking by Route Length

The hiking trails in and around Zwota are well signposted. They include the Klingenthal-Zwota circular trail, also known as the Höhensteig, and the Vogtland Panorama Trail. The Höhensteig is certified as a “Quality Trail—Hiking in Germany.” Six local routes are between 9.2 and 13.5 km long. These include “Around the Zwota Valley,” “Hoher Brand” in the Elster Mountains, “Sankt-Peters-Brunnen near Kottenheide,” “Raubschloss in the Klausenbach Valley,” “Source of the Zwota,” and Route 6, “Glasbachtal and Herrenberg,” at 9.2 km. This makes route length a useful point of comparison when choosing a trail for your stay.

Nature and Protected Area

The HĂĽttenbachtal nature trail runs from 600 to 800 m above sea level. Its 21 information panels cover flora, fauna, history and geology. The trail thus combines nature topics with local and geological history. The 43.44-hectare HĂĽttenbach nature reserve is part of the Ore Mountains-Vogtland Nature Park.

The “Lange Bank” offers a different perspective: at 40.13 m long, it provides a panoramic view over Klingenthal and Zwota. This viewpoint complements the themed trails with a clear view of both places.

Dialect, Film and Instruments

The Zwota Dialect and Experience Center features books of dialect literature, films from the region and continually changing special exhibitions. Language, film and changing exhibition themes are presented side by side.

The Zwota Accordion Museum has a collection of more than 1,000 instruments. These include harmonicas, diatonic accordions and concertinas from the 19th century. The collection also includes instruments from the “Arnold” bandoneon factory in Carlsfeld in the Ore Mountains, as well as various types of accordion, including top models from the former Klingenthal Accordion Works.

The Eibisch Depot is located in the former Denk brewery in the town center. Its extensive exhibition includes historical woodworking tools and toys; a Christmas exhibition is held every year. Visits are by appointment.

Festivals, Stage and Guided Tour

The Zwota fair is a three-day festival running from Friday to Sunday, with music and festivities in a marquee. It takes place ten weeks after Pentecost. The dialect and film evening, by contrast, has a fixed date: it is held every year on December 27. The dates therefore differ clearly for planning purposes: the fair is scheduled in relation to Pentecost, while the evening takes place on a specific date in December.

The history of the forest stage can also be placed in context: its first event at the natural theater took place on August 21, 2021; regular performances resumed in 2022. Georg Carsten Eibisch offers guided tours of Zwota either as a night watchman carrying a shutter lantern or as a barrel-organ player, accompanied by music.
