Grünheide offers a variety of outings: the climbing park features courses and zip lines, while a family loop and a trail to the high moor start at the forest park. The distances make it easy to plan: the loop is about five kilometres long, and the marked trail from the forest park to the high moor is about 0.5 kilometres. At Vogtland Lake, there are also activities with different seasonal focuses.
Climbing and other activities
Grünheide Climbing Park offers 85 climbing elements across six courses with increasing levels of difficulty. There are also 700 metres of zip lines through the forest and a 13-metre jump into a net. Children aged three to six have a dedicated climbing area; since 2025, a climbing area for the youngest children has also been part of the offering. Other attractions include the “Peterchens Mondfahrt” playground and a 70-metre all-weather tubing run. Alongside the courses, visitors can therefore choose the playground and tubing as separate activities.
Family loop and high moor
The Grünheide family hiking trail is a family-friendly loop of about five kilometres. It starts and ends at Grünheide Forest Park and follows paved and well-gravelled forest trails. The route is suitable for pushchairs and dogs. This loop can be distinguished from the shorter trail to the high moor: a well-signposted hiking trail leads from the forest park to the high moor near Grünheide, about 0.5 kilometres away. These details help you compare the two routes: the loop and the trail to the moor.
At the Grünheide high moor, narrow boardwalks lead to the edge of the protected moor. The high moor lies within the extensive network of hiking and cycling trails around Grünheide Forest Park. This makes for a different kind of outing than the family loop, with the moor and the boardwalks along its edge as the main focus.
Vogtland Lake in different seasons
Vogtland Lake is in a wooded area between Beerheide, Grünheide Forest Park and Jägersgrün. It is a popular destination for hikers, cyclists, cross-country skiers and riders all year round. In summer, it is also popular for swimming. Swimming is therefore a seasonal highlight alongside the activities available year-round. A circular route to Vogtland Lake leads to the lake and Grünheide Forest Park.
The large Beerheide winter hiking trail is another seasonal option, running through the wooded area between Beerheide and Grünheide. There is a hiking car park at Grünheide Forest Park for the Vogtland Lake cross-country ski trail; local conditions may vary by season.
Getting your bearings and travelling there
Vogtlandbahn line VL1 from Zwickau to Kraslice runs as far as Auerbach. There is no public bus service from there to Grünheide Forest Park. If you are taking this connection into account when planning your trip, check the timetable before setting off and arrange onward travel from Auerbach separately.
