Schollene lies on the left bank of the Havel and combines distinctive wetlands with cultural and outdoor attractions. The late Baroque castle, the post mill and the museum barn in the village centre each offer a different focus. When planning your visit, you can therefore start by deciding whether to focus on the landscape, a tour or local history.

Wetlands and nature watching

Schollene lies alongside the Untere Havel lowlands and the wetlands of Lake Schollene. Meadows, ditches, canals, oxbow lakes, reed beds, willow-lined edges and remnants of floodplain forest shape the landscape. The lake is shallow, with extensive reed beds, some of them floating, as well as wetland vegetation. It is part of an internationally significant wetland.

The wider Schollene area is also noted for crane migration; there is an observation platform near Neuschollene. If you are interested in this natural spectacle, you can take it into account when planning, alongside the riverbanks and wetlands.

Cycling and walking tours, and the Havel waters

The Havel Cycle Route passes through Schollene on its route from Berlin-Spandau to Havelberg. It is mostly flat and paved. In addition to this cycling route, cycling and walking tours in Schollene and the surrounding area are possible year-round. You can explore by bike or on foot.

There is a bathing spot on the Havel, and waterway travellers are welcome. This adds two more ways to enjoy the river to cycling and walking: a place to swim and the opportunity to visit Schollene as a welcoming destination for waterway travellers.

Castle, post mill and museum barn

The late Baroque castle in Schollene was built in 1752 by the von Printzen family. The Schollene post mill dates from 1845 and can be visited again following its restoration. It also serves as a viewpoint: from there, you can look out over Lake Schollene and the surrounding landscape. Outside the mill, you can see agricultural equipment and a horse gin built in 2011. Visitor arrangements may change, so check them before visiting the mill.

The museum barn is in the village centre, in a renovated former barn. It presents themes from local life, including agriculture, regional nature, crafts, trade and community history. It also covers the development of crafts, agriculture, forestry, fishing and shipping in the area. The barn brings together different aspects of local and economic history, while the castle and mill put specific historic buildings centre stage.

In practical terms, the cycle route and year-round walking tours offer different ways to get around, while the bathing spot and waterway travel add to the Havel experience. For a cultural focus, there is the castle built in 1752, the mill open to visitors with its view over the lake, and the museum barn with its broad range of themes. You can plan your visit to Schollene around whichever focus interests you most.
