Fronhofen is situated on a gentle rise in the central HunsrĂĽck and has an agricultural village character. Extensive agricultural land and the adjacent Bieberbach valley shape the surrounding landscape. Its hillside setting, fields and valley give the village its rural character; the Biebertal Circular Route adds a specific connection to cycling.

The Biebertal Circular Route

The 26.2-kilometre circular route includes Fronhofen among six Biebertal settlements. It can be started in any of these settlements or via one of nine connecting routes. Fronhofen is therefore one of the listed starting points. The route length and the different access points answer different planning questions: the distance describes the scope of the circuit, while the starting options offer flexibility in choosing where to begin.

The route uses well-maintained forest and farm tracks, as well as paved sections. It is considered suitable for all cyclists and families; at the same time, it includes some unavoidable climbs. The surface, suitability information and gradients describe different aspects of the ride and can be considered together when deciding on your own route. Check current trail conditions before setting off, as some conditions may change.

The Rhein-HunsrĂĽck region in a wider context

As a broader travel destination, the Rhein-Hunsrück district covers large parts of the Hunsrück, which forms part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains, as well as the left-bank section of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Large areas of the Hunsrück plateau and the quartzite ridges to the south, such as the Soonwald, also lie within the district. In the Middle Rhine Valley area, the Rhine forms the district’s eastern boundary. The district also has extensive, well-developed and signposted cycle paths along the Rhine and through the Hunsrück.

Those considering hiking trails in the Rhein-HunsrĂĽck district will find numerous options there, including the certified Soonwaldsteig Premium Trail. The Saar-HunsrĂĽck-Steig runs through the HunsrĂĽck via Kastellaun to the Rhine at Boppard and covers a total of 410 kilometres over 27 stages. These offer different ways to plan a trip: a 26.2-kilometre Biebertal circular route for cycling and a long-distance hiking trail with designated stages.

In Kastellaun, the Museum of Regional History (Haus der regionalen Geschichte) presents the region’s development from the Middle Ages to the Cold War. Thematic exhibitions, information panels and original documents take visitors through this period. From 25 April 2026, opening hours are 12:00 to 17:00 on Thursdays and Fridays, and 11:00 to 17:00 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Check the opening hours before your visit.

Boppard, also in the Rhein-HunsrĂĽck district, has its own historical connection: the Electoral Castle is a medieval fortification directly on the banks of the Rhine. Parts of the HunsrĂĽck-Mittelrhein municipal association and the city of Boppard are part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was recognised in 2002. The culinary profile of the Rhein-HunsrĂĽck district also includes regional specialities and Middle Rhine wine from high-quality vineyards.
