Reckershausen offers several ways to enjoy a stay: walking trails, cycling routes, leisure activities and local history. Each option has a different focus. If you enjoy hiking, you can choose between two trails with different points of interest; cyclists will find both a route variant through the village and a connecting path to the Schinderhannes Cycle Route. St. Thekla adds architecture and history to the active side of your stay.
Hiking and Nature Experiences
The “Reckershäuser Busch” Traumschleifchen trail starts and ends at the nature playground and barefoot path. Along the route, information boards provide details about forest flora and fauna, history and geology. Parking is available at the barbecue hut and recreation area.
The Reckershausen Energy and Forest Discovery Trail is approximately three kilometres long and runs alongside the Kirchberg wind farm. It can be combined with the nature playground and barefoot path for a family outing. The two trails have different focuses: the Traumschleifchen combines a circular route with information boards covering several topics, while the Energy and Forest Discovery Trail is defined by its approximate length and connection to the wind farm. You can choose a hiking option based on whether the topics along the route or its length and course matter more to you.
Cycling and Leisure Activities
Cyclists can choose between two different routes: one variant of the Hunsrück-Moselle Cycle Route runs from Kirchberg through Reckershausen to Völkenroth. A connecting cycle path runs from Reckershausen via the Reckershausener Höhe and Wüschheim through the Külzbachtal valley directly to the Schinderhannes Cycle Route. The routes therefore differ in their course and the connection each one provides.
There is an e-bike charging station at the recreation area. The area is also suitable for school trips and kindergarten visits, children’s birthday parties, barbecues and family outings. It brings together a convenient stop for e-bike travellers and a range of occasions for groups and families.
The Sonnenhof riding stable offers riding holidays during school holidays, as well as riding lessons for children and teenagers. The activities differ by occasion: holiday time for riding holidays, and instruction for young riders. If riding is one of your interests, you can consider these two options separately.
St. Thekla and Local History
St. Thekla was built between 1923 and 1925 to plans by Cologne architect Eduard Endler. The high altar dates from 1723 and originally came from St. Afra Monastery in Trier. This brings together a 20th-century church building and an 18th-century altar. St. Thekla can be visited during opening hours; check the current visiting times before your visit.
Reckershausen’s history includes connections with Ravengiersburg Monastery. Another chapter is the women’s resistance camp of 1983, which protested against the stationing of missiles and military construction projects. Up to 2,000 women took part in the protests. Alongside the church’s historical connections, this event offers a different perspective on local history: a specifically dated chapter from the more recent past.
