Discover Neuheilenbach through its specific historical and technological landmarks: the village’s founding is dated to around 1828; notable structures include the Marien Chapel, Baroque shaft crosses and a weather radar tower visible from several kilometers away.

From the village’s founding to Roman graves

Neuheilenbach was founded around 1828 by people from Heilenbach who wanted to emigrate and were called “Brazilians” locally. The place is first mentioned under its current name in 1831. The two dates therefore mark different things: the time of its founding and its first later mention under its current name. Until the mid-20th century, sandstone quarrying played a major role in shaping the local economy.

Roman cremation burials near Neuheilenbach point to early settlement in the area. A burial ground northeast of Neuheilenbach, with 20 stone-cist graves, is documented in 1923. The reported graves were destroyed during later work. The local history thus encompasses both early settlement and subsequent economic developments, while the exact dates distinguish the village’s founding from its first mention under its current name.

Chapel and shaft crosses

The Marien Chapel was built in 1964 and is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The present-day filial church was consecrated in 1967. A richly sculpted Baroque shaft cross dating from 1772 stands on Bergstraße. A Baroque shaft cross near Hauptstraße 3 dates from the 18th century. These religious landmarks therefore span the period from the 18th-century crosses to the church milestones of the 1960s.

Weather radar and route planning

The weather radar station was built in 1998 and is one of 17 radar stations nationwide. The 32-meter-high tower is visible from several kilometers away. A hiking trail runs above Neuheilenbach between Neuheilenbach and Neidenbach. Check local trail conditions before setting out. An e-bike charging station is located at Hauptstraße 7 next to the small village square; check whether it is operational before traveling.
