In Lambrecht (Pfalz), evidence of clothmaking meets architectural and cultural history. Trails with views over the town are another feature that can be combined during a stay, from historic buildings to hikes in the surrounding area.

Culture and Clothmaking History

The Jagdturm is a water and observation tower dating from 1885. Another notable building is the former monastery church of St. Lambrecht: it was built between 1320 and 1343 and is considered the Palatinate’s most significant art-historical gem in the restrained Gothic style. The choir walls feature secco paintings, which were uncovered in 1955 and carefully restored. Johann Georg Geib’s Baroque organ, which has been preserved almost in its original condition, dates from 1777 and is also used for church music concerts; concert programs may vary.

Clothmaking also shaped the town’s history. A guided walk through Lambrecht takes visitors to the guild house and explains when and why the Walloons came to Lambrecht and how clothmaking influenced the town’s industrial development. Check the tour’s availability and booking conditions in advance.

The historic billy goat tradition between Lambrecht and Deidesheim has been included in the Nationwide Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Germany. The Billy Goat March between the two towns can be walked year-round; the traditional annual march takes place on a specific festival date. The hike that is possible year-round and the date of the tradition can therefore be regarded as distinct aspects of the connection between the towns.

Hiking Trails and Viewpoints

The themed hiking trail Clothmakers’ Viewpoints starts at Lambrecht station. It is marked by white metal signs measuring 12 × 12 centimetres, with a green strip of fabric. Check the trail markers before setting out, as they may change. From the Wildsaukopf viewpoint, the route offers views over Lambrecht and in the direction of the Weinbiet.

The Dicker-Stein Tower can also be reached year-round by following the trail markers for Clothmakers’ Viewpoints. However, forestry work or temporary trail closures may affect access. The tower’s upper platform is 6.2 metres high; from there, views extend over Lambrecht and the eastern Haardt hills. The viewpoints therefore differ in both their stated heights and the directions of the views mentioned.

Parking is available next to Lambrecht station. As parking availability may change, check the current situation before travelling. Trail markers are also a practical guide for hikes: the themed trail starts at the station, and you should also look out for the markers along the way.

Activities in the Wider Area

The Palatinate Forest, with its dense woodlands, clear streams, gentle hills, hiking trails and viewpoints, lies within the wider Lambrecht municipal association area. Hiking options include half-day, full-day and multi-day tours, including the Palatinate Huts Trail. Regional cuisine and places to take a break complement the routes; some places to stop for refreshments may be available seasonally. The different tour lengths help you choose a hike to suit the time you have available, without assuming a specific duration for any individual trail.

Lambrecht is also a point of reference for mountain bikers: the town is one of the main entry points to the Palatinate Forest Mountain Bike Park. This adds another activity to the hiking options without equating the local trails with the offerings in the wider area.

More Topics in the Bad DĂĽrkheim Travel Destination

The wider Bad Dürkheim travel destination includes other distinct local and cultural topics. The Museum of Wine Culture in Deidesheim documents the relationship between people, wine and viticulture. A 2.3-kilometre circular route through the historic town centre offers a separate way to explore Deidesheim. In Bad Dürkheim itself, the Wurstmarkt dates back 600 years and is considered the world’s largest wine festival. The wines offered there have won awards and come from vineyards in the Dürkheim area; the selection from individual producers may vary.
