Circular hiking trails, viewpoints and traces of history give a stay in Iggelbach a variety of highlights. If you would like to explore the surroundings on foot, you can choose between a circular route that starts and ends in the village and a longer tour. You can also include village history and special viewpoints in your plans.

Hiking and Views Around Iggelbach

Circular Trail 17 is a 9.0-kilometre route from Iggelbach via Bierenberg and Melchiorfelsen and back to the starting point. Circular Trail 16, by contrast, starts in Elmstein: the 11.4-kilometre route goes via BloskĂĽlb, Iggelbach and Schafhof and returns to Elmstein. With the loop via Appenthal, this tour is 15.1 kilometres long. The two circular trails therefore differ both in length and in their start and end points. If you would like to begin a circular walk directly in Iggelbach, Trail 17 is a suitable option; Trail 16 includes Iggelbach on a tour starting in Elmstein.

Other trails also lead to Iggelbach. After the Stammingerbrunnen, the Kuckucksbähnel Trail continues towards the village; check seasonal conditions before setting out. The Pfälzer Hüttensteig trail continues from Elmstein to Iggelbach. From Kurzeneckkopf, you can enjoy a view over the Palatinate Forest and Iggelbach. The viewpoint can be reached via the Kuckucksbähnel Trail; parking is available on Am Tanzbaum street. The viewpoint is about 350 metres from the parking on Am Tanzbaum street; check before visiting whether it is open to the public. Do not confuse it with Kieferekäppel on Kurzeneck above Iggelbach.

The SchindhĂĽbel Tower southwest of Iggelbach offers a different kind of view: you can climb it and look out over the treetops. At the wedding trees, there are tables, benches and a large pavilion where you can rest; from the pavilion, you can see Iggelbach. As outdoor seating can change, check its current condition before your visit. If you would like to include more circular trails, you will find Circular Trails 19 and 20 at the Mitteleiche hiking car park; the car park is open year-round.

Village Centre and History

Iggelbach’s old village centre is designated a protected historic zone. The protected area extends from the valley of the Iggelbach stream to the saddle between Bloskülb and Kurzeneck. The two elevations differ in height: Bloskülb reaches 570 metres and Kurzeneck 451 metres. This range gives the area described a clear landscape reference point. Those interested in the history of the village will also find a memorial to the people of Iggelbach who fell in the First World War. Its unusual design, featuring symbolic graves, is noteworthy.

Other historical landmarks include the Protestant church, which has been in Iggelbach since 1933, and the bell and clock tower dating from 1899. The tower still stands on Schlossgasse, but is no longer in use. The bell tower is also closely linked to forestry work. The village’s history and the importance of working in the forest thus touch on two different aspects of local heritage.

Nearby, you can also find the remains of a Palatinate hunting lodge. They are on the northwestern slope of Bragberg, near the road between Iggelbach and Eschkopf; the hunting lodge has existed since at least 1749. This landmark adds a nearby site to the history of the village centre, although it should not be confused with the routes within the old village centre.

Practical Information for Your Stay

Local rest and picnic spots are also useful for enjoying the views and finding your way around. The picnic area on EschkopfstraĂźe is at the edge of Iggelbach, on the way towards Johanniskreuz, along the K17. At the wedding trees, the pavilion combines a place to rest with a view of the village. These spots offer different options for a break; the Mitteleiche hiking car park and the parking on Am Tanzbaum street are each associated with specific viewpoints or circular trails.

Bus route 517 connects Neustadt, Lambrecht and Iggelbach. Check the published timetable before travelling. If you would like to attend the local Kerwe festival, also check the event dates: the festival is considered an important event and welcomes visitors, but you should verify the dates separately.

Another attraction is the Elmstein Zipline Park in Iggelbach, which offers an experience among the treetops of the Palatinate Forest. Online registration is generally required. The activity is open to people aged 12 and over who weigh between 35 and 120 kilograms. These age and weight limits can help you check in advance whether the activity fits your travel plans.
