Burscheid offers several different highlights to consider when planning a trip: around 150 kilometers of hiking trails, protected stream landscapes and historic mills. There are also cycling opportunities and a cultural program featuring theater, exhibitions, readings and music. When choosing a destination, you can weigh up whether you want your days to focus on nature and outdoor activities or more on history and events.

Hiking trails with different profiles

The 7.8-kilometer Landscheider Weg is an easy circular trail. It leads through forests, along streams and fields, and passes three historic mills. Its specific distance and circular route give this tour a clearly defined profile. Three Nordic walking routes start at the Bellinghausen hiking car park and run around the Eifgenbach valley. They are designated for beginners, intermediate walkers and experts, so you can distinguish between them using a different criterion than the stated distance. Hiking trails E2 and E3 also pass through Burscheid.

There are three hiking car parks for walkers. The largest is in Bellinghausen; others are near Hammerweg and StraĂźe im Hagen. Check local parking options before setting out. When planning a hike, you can first choose the type of trail you want and then take the most suitable starting point into account.

Stream valleys and woodland landscapes

The Eifgenbach and Side Valleys Nature Reserve covers 111.04 hectares in Burscheid. Its conservation objective is to protect a largely natural stream-valley system with side valleys, grassland and natural deciduous woodland. The Herkensiefen Nature Reserve is described as a small side valley with beech-rich woodland. The two landscapes have different characteristics: one is a branching stream and valley area, while the other is a small side valley shaped by beech trees.

Mill history and archaeological monument

Lambertsmühle is a protected historic mill complex in Burscheid; the property has been listed since 1983. The complex includes a mill wheel, grinding equipment, a stone bread oven, a working forge, workshops, a weaver’s room and a cellar. It also includes a cottage garden and historic farming equipment. The mill is a local history museum and is represented by the Verein zur Förderung der Lambertsmühle e. V. (Association for the Promotion of Lambertsmühle). Check current visiting options before your visit.

Another trace of the past is the Eifgenburg ring rampart. It was probably built in the 10th or 11th century and is listed as an archaeological monument. The cautious dating is important: its construction date is conjectural, not given as a confirmed date.

Cycling and culture

The Balkantrasse Panorama Cycle Path is about 51 kilometers long. The converted Burscheid railway station is included as a possible rest stop. If you plan to cycle the route, check the current surface conditions and any detours in advance.

The cultural program includes theater, exhibitions, readings and musical performances. Individual events and dates vary. Burscheid maintains an events calendar and also offers an overview of annual highlights; the calendar is not complete. For a specific stay, it is therefore worth checking the relevant dates and current visitor information.
