For hiking, Herbram offers a clearly named starting point: the Hermannshöhen access trail: Herbram begins on Neueheerser Straße and joins the Eggeweg in Herbram-Wald. If you would like to combine your stay with a hike, you can use this route as a guide.

Plan Your Hike and Journey

The bus connection also provides a specific reference point for planning. Bus 484 runs from Lichtenau town centre towards Paderborn Central Station and stops at Li-Herbram, Post. From there, it is about a five-minute walk to Neueheerser Straße. This makes it possible to combine travel by public transport with the walk to the trailhead. Check the current timetable before travelling, as schedules may change.

The access trail leads to the Eggeweg; the stated endpoints help you plan your hike geographically. If you are interested in the village’s history as well as hiking, Herbram offers other topics to explore independently of the route.

Village History and St. John the Baptist Church

Written records of Herbram date back to the late 13th century. A more specific point of reference in the village’s history is St. John the Baptist Church: it is based on a church building approved by Prince-Bishop Simon III of Paderborn in 1482. On 28 June 1959, the church was solemnly consecrated by Archbishop Dr. Lorenz Jäger. The two dates mark different stages, from approval for a church building to its later consecration.

The annual spring festival is also part of village life: a maypole is erected in the village square. The festival adds a seasonal highlight alongside the historical landmarks. If the date matters when planning your visit, check the current festival date.

Protected Landscape near Herbram

North of Herbram lies the protected landscape feature “Orchard and Shrub Complex North of Herbram.” It consists of 16 fruit trees, some interspersed with shrubs and surrounded by hedges. Its name describes a combination of fruit trees, shrubs and hedges.

Another protected landscape feature is the “Emderbach Valley with Spring.” It includes a spring area and about 900 metres of the northern section of the Emderbach, in and south of Emder Forest, north of Herbram. This brings two distinct landscape features into view: the orchard and shrub complex, and the spring and stream. The recorded length of the stream section is about 900 metres.

More Things to Do in the Wider Lichtenau Destination

The wider Lichtenau destination offers other distinct hiking and cultural experiences. Dalheim Monastery lies directly on the Paderborn Land Route and can also be reached by bicycle from places including Lichtenau. Around the monastery, hiking trails of varying lengths pass through the diverse landscapes of the Teutoburg Forest/Egge Hills Nature Park. These destinations add to the options in Lichtenau; the hiking trails are in the area around Dalheim.

When choosing where to stay, you can weigh up different interests: Herbram combines a named access route to the Eggeweg with local history and two specifically described protected landscape features. The wider Lichtenau destination also offers the trails around Dalheim as a separate hiking option.
