Bad Lippspringe offers a variety of ways to experience nature, exercise, relaxation and history. The Lippe Spring is a distinctive feature: it emerges from a depth of around 8 metres and produces approximately 740 litres of water per second. This makes it one of Germany’s most powerful river springs. Other options to consider when planning your trip include the parks, various themed trails, the thermal spa and the town’s history.

Choose a garden show and trails by theme

The Bad Lippspringe Garden Show is a year-round destination for families and nature lovers, with colourful blooms and tranquil woodland. Its 30-hectare site has ten different playgrounds. Seasonal events include the Sparkassen Forest Illuminations in spring, the Sand Worlds in summer, the Pumpkin Festival in autumn and numerous after-work concerts during the summer months. The Park Festival takes place every year at Whitsun in Arminius Park and attracts several thousand visitors to Bad Lippspringe. If you are planning your trip around an event, check the latest dates.

The 1.5-kilometre circular “Enjoyment Trail – Wild & Delicious” leads through Arminius Park and Jordan Park in the centre of Bad Lippspringe. Along 14 stops, it introduces edible wild plants. Another route option is the approximately 4-kilometre “CONFIDENCE – Short Spa Forest Loop” trail in the VitalWanderWelt.

The Planet Trail and Climate Experience Route are also circular trails, but their themes are very different. The Planet Trail has ten stops, starts at the central Sun station in Arminius Park and returns there after approximately 7 kilometres. The Climate Experience Route in the Lippspringe Forest is a 7.5-kilometre circular hiking trail marked with a red “K” plaque. Starting points are the Noaks Pumpe hiking car park or, alternatively, the Prinzenpalais at Arminius Park in Bad Lippspringe. The route explores the climate of the past, the different aspects of today’s climate, and the climate of the future and its effects.

Thermal spa and relaxation

Westfalen Therme combines an extensive wellness offering with family-friendly attractions. Its sauna and wellness areas cover 6,000 m² and offer up to 20 infusions using pure essential oils. Family attractions include water slides measuring 75 and 125 metres, a pirate land and a toddler area with water games. One- and three-metre diving boards round out the facilities.

History and special places

The Lippspringe Castle is considered the spa town’s oldest landmark and a stone testament to its past. It was probably built by the Paderborn Cathedral Chapter at the beginning of the 14th century; it was first mentioned in a document in 1312. The local history museum presents the history of Bad Lippspringe across five periods: from the geological history of the Lippspringe area and settlement evidence dating from the Stone Age to the present, through medieval and more recent history, to the history of the spa.

The NABU Senne Nature Information Centre dedicates its “Fascinating Senne” exhibition to the geological formation of the Senne, its settlement and cultivation, as well as its present-day use and future prospects. The Peace Chapel offers a different focus: it is a place for quiet reflection, prayer, meditation and meeting others. From there, visitors can enjoy a lovely view of a dune valley, the Mersmann ponds and a woodland backdrop.

In the wider Paderborn destination

The wider Paderborn destination offers additional cultural attractions. Neuhaus Castle is in the Paderborn district of the same name and is an impressive example of early Weser Renaissance architecture. The Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum in Paderborn offers a 5,000-year journey through the development of information technology: from the first written characters and historic writing and calculating machines to early computers, modern robots and artificial intelligence.
