Eversberg brings together local history, forest themes and scenic views along a variety of routes. The Old Town Trail passes historic buildings and leads to the castle ruins; the Wild Boar Forest Adventure Course focuses on the forest habitat. The local history museum and the annual St. Martin’s Market offer further options for a stay.

The Old Town Trail and forest experiences in Eversberg

The Old Town Trail is a loop of about 2.33 kilometres starting at the Eversberg Local History Museum and taking around 40 minutes. Along the way, it passes the historic town hall and half-timbered houses. The castle ruins offer views over Eversberg; the route also leads to an adventure playground designed as a knight’s castle. The loop thus combines the townscape, scenic views and a stop featuring a playground with a castle theme.

The 1.6-kilometre Wild Boar Forest Adventure Course offers a different focus. At various information stations, visitors can experience the forest habitat with all their senses. The two routes therefore differ in both theme and length: the Old Town Trail passes buildings and the castle ruins, while the course offers insights into the forest habitat. Eversberg is set in the landscape of Arnsberg Forest Nature Park. There are also mountain biking trails in and around Eversberg.

Local history and St. Martin’s Market

You can visit the Eversberg Local History Museum on your own or as part of a guided tour. Since the Old Town Trail starts at the museum, you can use it as a landmark when planning your loop. Whether you choose a guided tour or explore on your own changes the way you visit the museum, not the route described.

The Martinsmarkt arts and crafts market takes place every year on the second weekend in November, on the market square and at the Markes Haus arts and culture centre in Eversberg. The exact dates vary from year to year. If the market is part of your travel plans, check the dates for that year before deciding when to visit.

Meschede: hiking on a larger scale

In the wider destination of Meschede, the Meschede Heights Hiking Trail, marked with an “M”, runs through the municipal area. Its route leads from Erflinghausen via Grevenstein and Freienohl to Eversberg and offers views across the region. This describes a longer regional hiking route in addition to the Old Town Trail, without suggesting that the two routes are the same.

The Sauerland Forest Route is a 240-kilometre long-distance hiking trail from Iserlohn to Marsberg. In Meschede, it passes through Arnsberg Forest Nature Park; one access point is in Eversberg at Buchsplitt. This is a different scale of route from the roughly 2.33-kilometre Old Town loop. When comparing hiking options, you can therefore distinguish between a compact local route and access to a long-distance trail.
