Twelve experience stations, more than 1,500 historical woodworking exhibits, and trails through nature reserves offer different perspectives on the history and landscape of Hiddenhausen. You can also choose activities to suit your interests: explore crafts and local history, plan a historical lesson, or discover the area on foot or by bike.

Crafts and Local History

The Hiddenhausen History Trail comprises twelve experience stations. For a closer look at crafts, visit the Hiddenhausen Woodworking Museum, which features more than 1,500 historical woodworking exhibits. The museum also includes a fully equipped old carpentry workshop. The collection and workshop offer different points of focus: both historical objects and a practical carpentry workspace take centre stage.

Right next to the museum, Café Alte Werkstatt serves speciality coffees, homemade cakes and tortes. As its offerings may change, check what is currently available before your visit. Another way to discover history is the Hiddenhausen Museum School, where historical lessons recreate a classroom in a Prussian village school. Participation requires advance registration.

Gut Bustedt: Architectural History and Biology

The history of Gut Bustedt goes back around 600 years: it was built as a moated castle and expanded into a water castle around 1650. Since 1982, Gut Bustedt has served as a biology centre. Its offerings include environmental education and outdoor biology lessons, bringing together its historic architecture and an educational purpose that continues to this day.

The grounds can also be visited at other times; check current visiting options in advance. If travelling by car, take the Hiddenhausen exit off the A30; parking is available on site. Check the travel information before your trip. This lets you consider both the historic site and its educational offerings as separate interests when planning your visit, rather than combining them into a single activity.

Explore on Foot and by Bike

Hiddenhausen comprises six villages; historic farms, peaceful parks and old listed buildings are part of the local landscape. Three nature reserves invite you to explore varied landscapes on foot and on hikes. The FĂĽllenbruch Nature Reserve lies along ZiegelstraĂźe and the former narrow-gauge railway line. That former railway line now forms part of the cycle network through Hiddenhausen and connects with the regional Soleweg trail.

For a hike, the Füllenbruch – N&K Route 18 is a 6.56 km themed trail in Hiddenhausen. Another option is the 20.65 km Denkmal-Route Hiddenhausen, a regional cycling route. It runs about 250 metres from Hiddenhausen-Schweicheln station. This information can help you choose between a shorter themed walking trail and a longer cycling route; the routes differ in both distance and mode of transport. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

You can prioritise the different themes according to your interests: the Museum School and the Woodworking Museum offer different ways to explore history, while the routes provide specific outdoor options. If you want to combine both, you can plan your activities accordingly and shape your stay around them.
